Recommended Posts

So many thanks to Karina, Marc and Franz for inviting us. It was a big pleasure for me, to play my records at one of the best rare soul clubs in the world. :hatsoff2::hatsoff2::yes::hatsoff2:

The whole weekend in Berlin was amazing...especially the deep soul and champagne session at Marcs home...the "mini Mod birthday Party...Arne's Soul Nighter at Roter Salon ... and the fantastic Bed and Breakfast at Kettlers Old Style Pension (Breakfast in bed...wow).:D

1000 hugs and kisses to you

from me and Julia

cheers Jan

It was our big big pleasure to have you and Ralf over mate, long overdue and you two sure delivered some blinding spots! I believe its fair to say that I think you two have and play some really blinding good records...well any other than that and you wouldn´t have been invited over anyway LOL! It was another great night indeed with about 120 people thru the door incl. a lot new faces and some unexpected Soul travellers (Cheers Flo Dalton, Sebastian Gerstung, Hugh, Buzzu and her small group of Munich Soulie Skinheads and of course Crout!) And Katja K from Hamburg...what a surprise! Its always funny to see how much the fact of unexpected guests from abroad over lights by far the tiny number of Berlin based people you do expect but who don`t show up.

The place filled up very early and fast and I must say that I really was surprised by the fact that the floor already had some dancers on while I was doing my first spot around 10 to 11 pm. Thats seldomly seen LOL!

A psychedelic freakbeat party around the block and a New Breed R&B party ten blocks away resulted in some sort of party travelling between venues among some but it was great to see that the floor was nearly always packed until around half past three.

We turned the PA off at around six am and the finish of yet another great Soul night down at the Oscar Wilde left us all with smiling faces and singing hearts. Cheers again and thanks everybody! Will try to get playlists posted on here and also to post some pictures later on.

Next Hip City will be 15.05.10 featuring none other than the coupling of two legends in the shape of Kitch and Dean Anderson

(Always been trying to get him over, have the deepest respect for him...his first time in Germany. Well, he`s been to the Hip City before but this time he will be even deeyaying to our benefit!!)

...what a cracking weekend in Berlin!

Kerstin and me arrived late by train on friday after a dull day at work. After a quick chat with our hosts Maren and Finn (who played at the world famous electronical music Club Bergheim with a few DJ friends on saturday...so he missed the soulful side of the weekend) we met the mixed Berlin`n`Hamburg posse at a local Mod party in a good mood. The `main man` of the night hold his 17th birthday bash and invited lots of Modernists in their 40`s. It was a little strange to see him and his same aged friends together with all the old faces from the Berlin scene. It seems they need some young Mod girls in Berlin soon...

After a few drinks we went to the `Roter Salon` near the Alexander Place. What a beautiful venue...think it`s one of the best in the German Capital. Peanut Vendor from Leipzig was behind the decks and played some bilinding records. There were just a few local students apart from our group...so enough space on the dancefloor. This kind of a perfect Soul venue with such a good DJ would be packed each time in Hamburg. We L E F T (better Mr. Bradley?) after the very last record he played...so he played the right ones! Thanks to Arne (Peanut) for a brilliant starter of the weekend... The rest of the night was routine .

Next day Kerstin and me went to the `Neues Museum`on the museums island to met Nofretete. After queuing for half an hour, the guard (I had asked before if we get the tickets at his entrance) asked us: `Where are your tickets? You have to buy them around the corner!` Wasn`t really amused about this clown...after seen the next long 100 meters queue around the coner we gave the old egyptian lady a miss. See you next time love... So we went to the Dome to see the coffin of Friedrich I., the whole church and a few more typical tourists places later.

After chilling at our hosts we went to the main event. The HCSC at the Oscar Wilde backroom was packed again around midnight and it was good to see some punters from far away as Wiesbaden and Munich. Like Jan wrote before...it was a pleasure for me to play at this great little Soul Club as well. Big thanks to Marc and Franz for the inviting. Great sounds from the other three DJ`s, a packed floor with smiling faces through the night and nice chats with a few guys I meet just two or three times a year. In the morning the place emptied a little...so Marc played a blinding set of well known rare records to our pleasure. The last hour went a little mental ...great stuff. See you in Bamberg and long may you live Hip City Soul Club!!!

On the train back to Hamburg a friend sent me the footie results. St.Pauli won 5:3 after 3 lost games in a row. A perfect ender of a perfect weekend!

What you mean by that LOL you mean "Ich geh¶r Station !" ? LOL

Of course... .

..and after seeing a few young lads doing `Jump Dance` on the Alexander Place to some silly Euro-Teccckkkno tracks a few hours before the Allnighter, I gave my best to beat them later at the Oscars in a dance battle without their knowing. My knees still hurts like hellfire today.
