Don't quote me on this.. ,but i think this has been around/known for quite a while.A very good friend of mine pulled this out his box at a record playing session,(i didn't know he had it),and said he'd had it since the Wigan days.

And have been digging around for a copy since - I realised it was pretty popular by the prices it was fetching.

I secured a copy of his original LP with "its gonna rain" on it for a fantastic price (15 quid) which I am more than happy with.

You know me John, 45s and LPs as long as they are original !!

Inclined to agree Mossy ...lp's sit fine with me as long as original

only prob dj'n with lp's is ,they get a bit tricky to cue in when you've had a few

How much does it go for then? And is it being played out? (I never go out).

Got one off Craig Moerer for about $20 two or three years ago after hearing it on an excellent Soul Jazz New Orleans comp that I bought for a girlfriend.

It's a version of the b-side of, "I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher (or is it the other way round?)

Think it was used in a tv advert in Australia a few year back..

I'd be amazed if it did sell with that extra zero stuck on the end of the price . Don't get this record to be honest, it's a good track but that's it....it's not stand-out or better than all the thousands of other good records that are around.

First time I heard it was at Lifeline being played covered up, might have been Bidds a week or two before but my memory is useless! Didn't recognise it but I was given the record to look at uncovered, knew I had it somewhere and made a note to dig it out and Mace very kindly bought it off me when I did, a most generous 50p . Must have been 2 years ago now, thought this 45 had been played/over-played/forgotten in those two years but no such luck for me . Before I get torn to shreds by everyone who loves it......it's just my opinion and I'm allowed to express it, I'm sure I'll be in the minority on this one but it's basically a £20 record that a group of DJs all had and played covered up whilst selling spares at prices well over the odds.

I would have paid 60 quid to 80 quid for it on 45 - I missed one one e bay a couple of months ago - it went for around 50 quid.

As I mentioned - I love the record. Its a great Jazz tune and its great so see odd bits n bobs getting popular IMO.

Its another one you could have got a few years ago for next to nothing when it was generally unknown IMO.

Thats just record collecting again - now the cats out the bag - it seems that it has a cult following.

I know what you mean - there are many great Soul / Jazz instrumentals out there that could cut it on the floor which are as good as "Its gonna rain" .

I guess its another style to keep a closer eye on ?

A few notes from recordmania regarding Gentleman June Gardener and The LP Bustin Out

Funky-stinky New Orleans instrumental stuffs by a legendary drummer.

Gentleman June Gardner is one of the acclaimed New Orleans drummers. The most famous job was a sort of Lee Dorsey's recordings, such as "Get Out Of My Life Woman" and "Working In A Coalmine". His another celebrated work would be a drummer of Sam Cooke's road band (1960-1964).

This album, released in 1966, contains his fine leader sessions, compiled from his various recordings for local labels (including Hot Line label in New Orleans), maybe arranged/produced by legendary Wardell Quezergue. The top-notch smash hit "It's Gonna Rain" and all other tunes are covered with lazy New-Orleans rhythm, but also hot taste. Dirty but steady brass riffs are also attractive. Especially all tunes on the Side-B are very impressive.

Although it's mysterious that these recordings were released by EmArcy label, this LP holds nice funky instrumentals.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

I think it's a great tune, a real nice mod jazz dancer.

It sounds great played out loud + if a dj can drop it in at the right time it really does hit the spot

personally I wouldn't come on here specificly to slag a record off,if I doesn't do it for me I just mind my own business,that's just my way I suppose,for example I didn't like some of the tunes played in the main room at radcliffe on Sunday but I won't say who played 'em cos it's down to personal taste,thankyou.

I am with you, some of the records didn't do it for me at Radcliffe either but I am one person in a room full of people and if the dance floor is busy it is job done in my book.

The only dig I had in that post was that it was covered up by several people and sold covered at very inflated prices which is IMO a little disrespectful to the people you sell it to, similar thing happened with Flamingos - Since My Baby Put Me Down being sold covered (as the Volumes??) for £75-£100 when it was everywhere for £10-£20 and more recently there's a cover up that is on gemm/manship/moerer/everywhere for less than a tenner and yet gets sold at venues and on lists for £100. No harm in people making themselves a few pound by buying copies to sell on etc but when you're charging decent money for an easily available £10er it kind of leaves a bad taste.

This has been around on the mod scene for years, has been played on and off in London particularly.

I imagined it would have been.

I was on the Mod scene and lived in London from the 80s to the mid 90s but I can't remember Gentleman June from that period.

Not to say that no one played it back then - But its one great Mod tune that has escaped me until recently.
