:hatsoff2: HI ALL DOES ANYONE FOLLOW NOGGERS DAILY PLAY, IF SO??

As i play records every day, often I think when was this last played or has this been played or do you know this, well lets here your recommended record of the day, keep it to just 1 45 and 1 LP.

My LP of the day is MOCKINGBIRD INEZ & CHARLIE FOX - SUE ILP 911 **** Current value about £50+

Great LP club soul class, every track is a winner and will bring the MOD in you to the top, recommended.

45 of the day, most of you will have so play it as son as you can as i still cant do the sound clip thing.

from the pen of BERRY GORDY, MARV JOHNSON - DON'T LEAVE ME - LONDON HL-T9013

1859 THIS WAS RELEASED? And it was one of the 1st SOUL records plus TAMLA,

this is a great record and a must have for any young DJ to play and to learn about the roots of SOUL

value £car boot cheap :shhh: rate *****

How this one has stayed under the radar for so long is a mystery to me. Ok its motown and its by one of the worlds best know bands but still............ If this is not a perfect cross over dancer ...

  • THE ADMIRATIONS 'Don't leave me'...Together with KEV'S previous posting, got to be two of the greatest 'cheapos' ever! Just spun'em back to back, fantastic stuff!

  • cracking track by Geno (Gino) Washington "I'll Be Around" came out twice on Atac steve https://youtu.be/Z9WvNRiV9Tc

Yes i have this version, great track, the Maxine Brown would have been a stormer had it been around on 45. Guess its the cant have it part of me and of course Maxines fantastic singing voice that just nicks it for me!

Now theres another good thread, but i guess its already been done, how many differen versions & who prefers what and why! This is what makes our music so good, we can have many different versions of a song, each will have its own loyal following but equally each one can be appreciated by the others..... If you know what im saying lol. Atb Baz.

Know where ya coming from mate  One great track that did escape to 45 off Maxine's "Out Of Sight" Lp on epic was this one

writen by Bridges Knight and Eaton and produced by Mike Terry ... say no more!!

Maxine Brown "Seems You've Forsaken My Love"

(Ooops that's 2 from me today! promise no more tomorrow! :wicked: )

gets better each time I hear this Dave! still ain't got one either! Val's got some great tracks loaded on his Youtube page for sure

steve

Yep, it's their toughest 45 to find I reckon. The clip shows a blue Demo too! I have the stocker and the White Demo but that's the first time I've seen a blue demo. Great soul group harmonies on a fantastic song.

Regards,

Dave

THE DRAMATICS 'Since I've been in love'....Gorgeous midtempo Soul from DON DAVIS'S VOLT period....

https://youtu.be/AQ0rWgROcDg

Loved that track for many years Rich, was the first to get me into JB's more soulful side that he showed in the 70's, When I posted that to Youtube UMG evntually put a "copywright" on it, but still alows it to be played, as you can see. Thing is the flip (JB and Lyn's great duet of the Burt Bacharach "This Guy This Girls In Love") UMG "copywrited" it but won't alow it to be played at all? and UMG with some of the other JB's I posted block 'em only in Germany? Strange world of Youtube! :g:

steve

Bloody hell STEVE, only just realised that is on the flip side....Normally I am a serial flipper too, cheers for that mate!... :hatsoff2:

This mornings offering. Same song but miles apart. Two genres that I usually pay lip service too but Rex's original has a pounding latin beat which connects perfectly with his soulful vocal. The 70s version by the Dynamos is verging on out and out disco but just stop short. Both quality records in my opinion.

LP track from me,

Another track from the LP worth a mention " Don't Say No More" but could not find it on Youtube.

My Fav Bobby Womack track at the mo is this "Daylight" United Artists. Best Version by far for me and always reminds me of the felling of comming home from a nighter should be the last record played before walking out the door into the sun on a bright sunny sunday morning. Should cost you no more then a tenna available on UK Or US format.

Off the LP,only eclipsed by Johnny Wyatt......and "I lost a true love"...Wigan stomper !!!

Some really nice 45s in this thread, what a great idea for a topic!!!! Another one for today, just wondered how many know this one, it was a new one on me until 18 months ago. To say its from such a tallent as Little Anthony cant believe it slipped under my radar all these years. Ive played it a couple of times out and it got some nice comments. Let me know if theres anyone else out there playin it. If you dont know it give it a minute to kick in.......Cheers.

Hi

Not got one myself but has been played off & on for years without ever going big (well not where I frequent). One that always gets the nod of approval from everyone when played

Cheers

Martyn

Rex Garvin's version new on me Dave, really like this, got the Dynamos version which I picked up for a couple of quid, certainly wouldn't pay anyway near book price of £50 for it!

Is Rex's version a hard one Dave?

Hi Steve,

The Rex Garvin is reasonably hard but shouldn't be more than around the 100UKP mark I would have thought. Beware though as it has been bootlegged in the past I think. Can someone confirm that for me?

Regards,

Dave

Yep know it from the album, not played it in years, forgot just how good it was.......... Good call!!!!

Mike Kirkland "Give It To me""

Superb track mate really liking that

Another Record of his I seem to play a lot these days, more down tempo... but sooo classy imo

steve

Following on with the LP tracks & only a cheap one at that.Used to be C/U as Baby Washington by Richard Searling.Never been as massive as it should have been imo.

Love the flip too!!

That wasn't my choice for today (Vontastics) - just a reply :wicked:

So here's my selection today and another double-header.

The Artistics - I'll Always Love You

and Love Song

Here's this mornings offering: I played this recently in OZ, some liked it, some didn't. I love it. This came out on Strakers Records too which is a tad harder, in my opinion, to find and is a different (better) mix.

Here's the 4min version,on UK Buddah only 3mins and a bit.When the "growler" kicks in..wow...!!

Bill Withers "Harlem" Sussex, this has got to be the contender for one of the best cheepies available to man, Thumping Soul with attitude, and thel flip to "aint no sunshine" so wont cost you more then a tenna

Very nice indeed Steve, a new one to me & never come across the label before either.

SMOKEY ROBINSON AND THE MIRACLES...'Dont say you love me'....

Saw someone mention 'album only' Northern Soul'...A subject that has long occupied my thoughts, i.e as to why so many great records are neglected and abandoned by the scene simply because they don't measure 7 inches, have never got it myself, whilst I love OVO, what the heck is wrong with a pristine original US Soul album?...Here's one from Motown, the great resovoir of 'Album only' NS...Superb dancer with everything.... :hatsoff2:

https://youtu.be/f-m-oJCk4rI

https://youtu.be/f-m-oJCk4rI

Is it just me?....Playing this back now, I cannot hear the superb singalong backing vocals that leap out of the speakers on my decks (very unlike a normal MIRACLES track and one of my fave bits of the whole record!) on the chorus???

Glad ya liked that other Mike Kirkland track mate

Zay records was a small early 70's label started by Jesse James and his manager Hosea Wilson I think, along with a another small label Zea, inbetween Jesse's 20th Cent stuff. Jesse had a couple of outings on both labels including this great little crossover cheapie

Jesse James "I Know I'll Never Find Another One" Zay...

https://youtu.be/kXn1x8BQ8HE

..... and indeed this superb souful track on Zea (blows me away this one! what a talent the man is!)

Jesse James "I Need You" Zea

steve

Go Yvonne!!!

Yvonne Fair "Walk Out the Door If You Wanna"

Cracking track this Ritchie, Yvonne Fair got propper balls on this one! she seemed very underated at motown? got this and her exquisite "Stay A Little Longer" that came out on the Soul label. She did the business again with her take on Kim Weston's old "It Should Have Been Me" too!

Yeah strange!....It's from the album 'Four in blue' and on the record, there are very distinct, Northern flavoured singalong response back up's...Like I said, one of the things I really like about the song and not like the usual MIRACLES backing vocals...Now I know this came out on the album first in 1969 and then apparently it was re-issued on a CD in more recent times, one of those two-albums-in one jobbies...I thought I heard a stylus being lowered onto the vinyl when I first played the YOUTUBE video but maybe it's a CD player being turned on or something...Perhaps the 'mix' on the CD is a slightly different one and they left out the backing vocals becaue they definetly aint there!

If they did god knows why because they really enhance an already terrific Northern track.... :hatsoff2:

SOULFUL INTEGRITY SAID:

..... and indeed this superb souful track on Zea (blows me away this one! what a talent the man is!)

Jesse James "I Need You" Zea

Fantastic Soul record this STEVE, bought my demo off PETE WIDD for a fiver about five years ago...In the same batch came MAJOR LANCE 'Since I lost my baby's love' and PATTI AUSTIN 'Cant forget the one I love' which have both also appeared in this thread! There was one more great record but I am not mentioning that in the hope I get to post it up here before somebody else does....(odds not looking good at the moment!).... :hatsoff2:

Also love Jesse's version of 'At Last' the other side of ' i know ' , actually had it at our wedding as Denise walked in !

Great thread by the way (Thanks Dave!), to actually hear stuff that I haven't heard and probably can afford to buy some of them.

Cheers everybody

Swifty
