This was one program I wanted to watch last week, but due to long hours at work and the video being kerry packered, I missed it - snoring on the sofa apparently

i've scoured the radio times and drawn a blank - much appreciated if anybody can help

Never forget working overtime one night and was listening to John Peel .... when he played Charles Thomas - "Man with the Golden Touch" - Loma.

Anything remotely 'soul like' always sounds great .... and probably more soulful than it is .... when it's played on mainstream radio.

So you can imagine how good this sounded.

Gave me a bit of a boost anyway!

Mmmm, I knew there was something on telly worth watching. Forgot all about it. Luckly there was an article in the Independent on Sunday on the 30th October listing Peel's 147 favourite records.

I was always a big fan of Peel and listened every night as a teenager and for some years after. He had the great knack of dropping an unexpected recorded which just blew you away. Cairo's and Charlie Thomas being great examples. For me I will always remember when he played Black Heat "No time to burn" Atlantic, back in the mid 80s. What an awesome funk record that is. Makes your liver quiver!

The interesting thing is the Eddie and Ernie stuff insofar as Dave Godin who as we know was a real champion of our Deep Soul hero's was quite critical of Peel, if my memory serves me correctly, back in the 70s via Blues and Soul. Dave was upset about Peel's record label Dandelion. Can't remember the reasons why but the passage of time reveals that Dave and Peel had alot more in common then we may have realised.

Also, Lou Reed is a big Eddie and Ernie fan. What that means I have no idea.

All i can say is what a top bloke he was, the Uk music scene has lost a champion of the "underdog", no matter what the style of music, being out late at night and on shifts i often used to listen to his program and the amount of uk released soul he would play was astounding, i know he played the early Kent stuff, Mary Love "Turned my bitter into sweet" springs to mind also quite a bit of Garland Green as well.

i don't think anyone would have the balls to play what he did, they all play safe a very sad loss.

Now that's one hell of a box of 45s! Nice to see The Users "Sick Of You" in there, one of my most played singles.
