I remember a guy from Wigan 78ish who I bought a chapter 5 issue from with no centre, the record was massive at the time, can't even remember how much it cost me, all I remember is the guys name was hovis and he hung around with a smaller guy ,I think they were from Leeds maybe Sheffield way. They were always in the record bar at wc doin some hustling and trading bigger sounds, basically try to have people over, any clues to who they were!, it's cool don't worry I'm not after any money back or redemption after all these years lol. Just curious about who they were

I cannot add a lot to this thread, apart from at wigan, hovis, hung around the stage at wigan, right hand side, facing stage, and when I knew him, indeed was very good aquaintance, with Alan Rhodes. Hovis was responsible, for nightwatch-lips to your heart.

Actually if you're looking for someone to blame for Nightwatch it's me.

I remember Hovis , one night in the Casino bar we were talking & both blocked of our faces he asked me what i did for a living. I told him i worked for a glazing company that made & installed double glazing & patio doors. He told me he worked for Adshead & Ratclife & did we use their sealants , i said yes we do......... " i can get you as much as your company needs & we will come to an arrangement" . The next week in the Casino bar he come`s over a bit sheepish & said ..........look about last week, i was err......... i just laughed me head off .....

John Drevars Expression were a 60's band from Southampton (slightly moddy) and well known to everyone there.

Pretty sure Shay ( who I believe was from down that way) played it at Yate in '76 or '77 and was the first to play it. It was his big tune (sound) at the time. Happy to be proved wrong, but credit where it's due

Yes it was Kath she would have been about 17 last time i saw her back in about 76 to 78 era as i said she used to get all my record lists typed up at Osram did it later become Thorne ? I am really sorry to hear she's gone mate , she was a lovely girl were you part of Hovis's crew ?

I was a couple o' year older than hovis so i moved in slightly different circles at casino, used to knock about with joey haughton (who later joined the navy), paul mc eaver. ian galvin, ces, scally (mike atherton), scotch mac (donald mc donald), and too many reprobates to mention. but did a lot o' niters with hovis after casino burned down. ps are the records on those sale lists still the same price? lol.

i am that hovis from wigan casino .l lived in oldham at the time and moved to shaw .i stopped going to the casino in 1979 due to family commitments. i resurfaced a couple of years later going to the casino and nearly every stafford and tonys in blackburn. i sold all my records to dave withers in 1979 but started to collect again and did some dj work at tonys and a club in manchester. i sold the second collection to tim brown at anglo american in the early 1990's.i have now got a third collection but don't get out much .if you want to get anymore information about records i had or didn't have please leave a message
