from looking in the US or New Zealand? Because if you ended up getting lots of cut outs shipped from the US, you would be more likely to get the rare stuff (e.g. intentions on tiki) than the hits.

totally unrelated, but I love the ben e king "the record (baby I love you)", it's my favorite of his by far. Plus the song is about recording a record.

both in the US & NZ as well as Canada, the UK, France & Japan, it's like i'm Stand By Me kryptonite, i'm actually semi-amazed a copy got to me in the mail & that it hasn't disappeared from my collection . not really likely to get much of anything down here, rare or common at the moment, hard work in record hell.

chicago is record hell. at least if you get stuff it's probably unused stock versus some destroyed cracked moldy record from someone's leaky basement.

Sometimes records no matter how easy or how hard to locate, does not always go to plan in many cases the rarer a record is the more likely it will be offered for sale, in the days before the Internet, & RECORD COLLECTOR records like Jimmy Conwell were indeed hard to find, as were most rare UK northern dancers? Im thinking big seller,mostly used copies, little unused stock lying about.

And although Im loathe to mention it in case I got the wrong end of the stick I think some copies out there are pressed by other than Motown. Something about Gordy owing money. The pressings look cheap and faded. You see the odd Supremes and 4 tops 45 like that. That was the story I heard years ago.

Just listened. Although I admit there's the familiarity factor, the Ben E King sounds significantly better to me. Ben E King has a much better voice and delivery. The backing vocals on the Barnum cut was much more poppy, sounded possibly like White girls. The Ben E King version had a stronger female backing with more soulful voices.

It's cheap Bob. It'll grow on you. You can put it in some appropriate section in your collection.

Hi Criss...Yes it looks the Dog's in my opinion, however my 1st copy had NOC cost me £5, i swapped it for the one in the post +£5. in saying that apart from the Jon Ford they are not valued above £20, I could give loads of example like Lada Edmond Jr La Rue UK MCA DEMO, it may be quite easy now, but is in fact the rarest of the 6 Norther Soul records from the mid 70's however due to demand, RUBIN is more wanted, and it probably is elusive to many collectors to-day? cheers DAVE

I see copies of this just about every week in NY, a few are pretty beat but mostly they seem to be fairly clean but with 1 big scuff / scratch across it. It's like they paid some b***er to sit at the end of the line with a can puncher or something. I was just talking about this to someone the other week.

just recently got a passable copy of this to replace my beat up one, this never shows up clean here. You're right Boba, quality tune.

It's the same with the promo. Found a few but mainly trashed. Eventually did find a minter but had to resort to Ebay.

I think it's the same with a lot of the more successful Motown 60s stuff. I suppose the promos were actually used for their purpose rather than filed in some radio station. Another one is Jr Walker - Road Runner. Have had a few but always beat up. Four Tops - Shale Me Wake Me... - Always got X on label.

Got a beautiful clean copy of The Record last year off Ebay for a fiver.

Yes Steve....and how mint was it . Still got quite a few things from that batch that came from Thames TV... all just like were were off the press. Wouldn't it be great if the BBC ever sold up their archives. Wishful thinking maybe

They are about, I'm sure, I just prefer diggin and supporting the locals unless it's something that's obviously not going to happen.
