Anyone get one of those Warner Holidays brochures through the door? They are like short breaks for old people. Well I didn`t Ha-Ha! but my mate did & he showed me they have 2 Legends of Northern Soul breaks on offer.

Who`s warped mind dreamed up this hideous treat? Is anyone involved that we know? Three nights in luxurious surroundings with champagne & a Northern Soul cabaret would suit some of the armchair nobs granted, but seriously is it likely to attract any numbers? I mean you could get a week in the Med easy for what it costs.

IMO the Northern Soul scene is becoming more of a diluted joke every day & it is surely time again to discuss divorcing the Rare Soul scene from it in everything including name. & this time let`s hope it gets further than a decree nisi.

My suggestions are, Commie Soul, Down&Out Soul, Cooncil Hoose Soul. Any more? Or has it been done already at the decent venues?

Sorry carnt agree on this one. you will end up in venues with like minded people listening to music that you all like with all the same opinions about all the same things, One of the good things about the scene is its diversty. As for a weekend in a nice posh hotel being waited on hand and foot and some good Northern Soul sounds good to me even if its over played oldies I have no problem with it, just enjoy it for what it is.

And if you dont like it dont go and enjoy the fact that someone else is

Don't know if it was Kev, but thre were some in Leeds with Richrd Searling dj'ing. Mate of mine went. Said the food was nice. But the chart motown played by RS was a bit much.

they had some top rave DJs on, Judge Jools, etc, From Friday all the way through to monday, Non stop, and all for under £ 300 including Food & accomadation. So it can be done, and these top DJs dont come cheep. and it would be nicer then a Caravan or Challet that seems to be the norm at Northern weekenders

Mmmmmmmmmmm what the fcuk is going on, I would rather drip sulphuric acid down my japs eye all week end than attend some soul in basket POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH like this, each to their own & all that, & I might be forty plus, but I aint past it yet, wasnt the NS scene once a little bit waaay a little bit woah, Jesus Christ I'm embarrassed to be associated with this Dinner Dance, cabaret crap..........Id comment further but Im almost beyond speech......................pass the drugs some one please . I thought I was still part of some dodgy underground scene, playing great music that few others knew or understood, the divs we once shunned & laughed at for thier straight life style are taking over .

If I am to be judged by these kinda promotions I wont bother any more.......................thank goodness that their is still a real scene out there somewhere.

Just been on the web site and its not a northern weekend its a motown weekend and aimed more at the dance around the handbgs brigade, so Northern as we know it, is not what its about. So all those of you that seem to really of been taken aback at the thorght of a nice weekend with decent food and one or two luxarys can rest easy

I am sure most think the same Russ...Who is the promoter???There are more and more of these dog shit events coming up all the time as the crowd gets older,some tryin to milk every penny before the whole scene dies..I think the dinner/dance brigade are seperate from the real scene,i hope...I was told the flyer/advert fot the dinner dance had a roast chicken going round on the record decks,i had snot and beer everywhere when i heard that,i think its one of those urban myths aint it???..Some people call you a snob for putting down these events,if so then i think there are a couple of thousand on here i hope..I could be a snob also but its only because i care for the real scene and all the good people who are part of it..Rant over..

No Miff, yes they do Motown do`s, but the two do`s in question are deffo billed as Northern Soul I kid you not. The question was is it not time to turn our back on what remains of the sadly desperate Northern Soul label while we still have time?

After Reading this thread I have decided to seek medical advice cos I am havin horible Thoughts on Dinner&Dance Motown Nites and seedey Seaside Hi de Hi resorts that are frightening me deep down in my Soul .. Ive Just got back from the Doctors and he advised me to take Two Valium and lie Down in a dark room for an hour or So!! should do the trick

The missus and sister in law went to one of these doos (hen weekend) at Thoresby Hall, Nr Mansfield. Both hate soul with a passion, but both had a fantastic time apparently - and the place was booked up months in advance, so they must be doing something right for somebody.

For nearly 20 years of marraige Sue largely ignored me and my strange nocturnal habits, but all of a sudden she wanted a couple of CD's doing 'for the car'. Alas, they didn't last long - such as Clydie King's 'Missin' my baby' and Jimmy Burns 'I tried' aren't 'real soul' apparently
