Hi all, first time poster so please be gentle with me if this has been asked before!

An original Columbia copy of this cracking tune has long been the object of my desire, but I'm afraid my finances won't currently stretch to the £350+ being asked on sales sites. However, as the track is included on their album which is obtainable for around the £25 mark the question is, is it actually the same version as the 7'' release?

A good mate of mine thinks not, (no pun intended!), but he's not heard the album so isn't completely sure. The large disparity in current market price suggests to me though that he could be right, but I'd be grateful if anyone in the know could finally verify.

The Lp contains a more " gospel " version , but still good

Off top of my head the 45 and the LP are different takes. I can't check my sound files as I'm doing a podcast but sure someone will back up or rectify what I say.

the whole concept it seems was a musical laying out the black mans journey in usa thru time

think the show must have run in paris or something and french lp maybe was pushed out then?

memory says its more spiritual than the usa one, i need to dig it out to be sure

The LP version is only a little different. The thing is if you dont want to spend £350 then the LP track is still great. I have had three LPs in the last couple of years and all went to satisfied peeps.

The LP take is about 20 seconds longer as well. The 45 has more oomph in it

There is also the recording by the Coasters that uses the backing called "Searchin'" Few versions of that, Cravens and Alvin Robinson just two.

that actually fits in with the shows concept

as memory says going off the lps sleeve notes that 'thinkin' was sung when they were covering the early 60s period of the "black mans journey" which was to do with the move from rural areas to cities

so adapting such a track sort of makes sense

Having listened to the links to both versions added by Chalky, the 45 version is obviously a bit punchier, but the longer album version is still blinding, so I'll be dipping into the bay for a copy of the album at the first opportunity.

i still say its melba moore doin the lead on this.....sounds like her,,a girl looking like her called melba montgomery on the back cover of the canadian copy for sure.... sold it recently so i cant be 100% certain
