..though discussed many times..i dont think anyone has the definitive answer to the question...which is the original yellow issue and which is the re-issue?

so, there is a white promo most agree is the original,,then a yellow issue (both approx 1971/72), then a yellow reissue acknowledged by neil rushton as ltd repress of 500 approx 1976. The questions distills to which of the yellow issues is the original?..There are differences between each press label..(most agree matrix /delta details are the same) one has similar size artist/title text as the promo with a gap between pub details to right and left center, the other has smaller squarer artist/title text with no gap in right & left center details.both share some similarities to the promo label notably the bold type and text style.

so white promo - original yellow 1st issue - 2nd yellow repress(NR 500)..

can anyone tell me which is the original 1st yellow...maybe someone who had a copy when it was first played..or certainly pre 75/76..its one of the most puzzling ..and i'm sure many people will be checking their copies..scans are here for comparison..opinions are already well documented..does anyone have the answer? interestingly sale copies from the US feature both yellow types..

The re-issue would have been done 1978 or 1979.

It has the name of a distrtibution company on it, that's not on the label of the original..

I think the repress was bubbly label on some copies.

Was only 500 repress so rarity in own right.

Neil the repress was done in 76 or very early 77, unless there was a second repress and the ones floating about suddenly in 76/77 were old stock someone had found. I bought this out of Pep's shop the saturday it came out, swear it was 76. You can always gauge this by whether it appears on Casino tapes, and it appears on only one I've ever heard, and that was from 75 not 76.

I can get matrix stamps etc of the demo when I get home but the middle ones font lookes strange.

ok..possibly the matrix stamps are the same for the NR500 repress..some suggest they were pressed from the same plates..lets see what your promo shows..

I definitely did the only repress, it was from the LA company who owned the master.

I liked the record so much I thought it would be easy to sell 500, actually was really hard to move them.

I could have had them done in 1976, but I would have thought later. I have kept some of the old paperwork from those days, so will have a look to see if original invoice is stll there.

sources than Simon.I distinctly remember getting the Highland label info from a Billboard Annual and doing the deal myself, so would have been 1977 earliest.

The Wigan plays did not affect me getting the stock...I just loved the record!!!

I was going to say I didn't recall us doing Soul Patrol in Interdisc times. I was actually dubious that someone would have re-pressed it as I wasn't aware of any demand......

i would have thought that the typeface of orig issue would be the same as the demo ( also with the same markings in the runout)....to me it looks like the one on the right is the repress in sheffsouls 1st post

interestingly the rpack forrest red guy is a brit who lives in canada i think... he would have bought the soul patrol over here years ago before he emigrated....dealt with him loads of times and pretty good as a rule. but same as most may not know if the copy above was a 1st issue or 2nd for certain

It was said the repress was the one on the bottom with the label not stuck on properly and a different font. Like Dave I would have thought this was the repress and the two with same type face were the first, the top two.

Funny I would have said this was the second issue, fonts totaly different from the demo.

neil rushden may have used the same delta number when he had this reissued but im certain the rpack forest red copy is the reissue...would be nice to see the runout markings on all 3 as chalky says

exactly my point..SOMEBODY ..must still have an orig issue from before it was repressed!..as for the bubbling label..i have a Rolling stones MR pressed promo of 'Tumbling Dice'..has the same bubbling on label..and both 45's seem to have been pressed within weeks of each other..

I read that as the matrix numbers for the one on the right as you were talking about that one

agree but many 45's have issue or demo label differences..sometimes the demo label is poor or the other way round..i'm betting the matrix is the same on all three..the demo and issue with smaller font seem to be anyway..

I don't recall seeing many if any highland releases with different style between demo and issue, just this one off top of my head. I know Highland used whatever company was the cheapest at the time, or whatever their budget would stretch too, for each issue.

This numbering is odd on his issue, nothing like the other releases (the numbering system is all over the place anyway). Many releases were simply leased by Highland rather than recorded by the company.

Gonna revive this cause I was looking to buy a yellow issue off Pete smith, and put the brakeson, but remembered this thread.
