Not sure about it being the start loads of copies of the Inspirations your wish is my command went back in the early 80's the doo woppers we going mad for the flip and paying daft money. Mind you it doesn't look like daft money now

soon, we will all be flying over to the UK pick up obscurities ... well, i guess some are already doing that.

I have a few regular buyers from the USA, I think it's just laziness on their behalf to go out hunting them down in their own back yard.

What. Please don't do it, it just makes me so sad to see, they sold them to us in the first place, they couldn't wait to see the back of all those "silly soul records".

If you want i will take any 45's any one is thinking of sending over the pond FOC of course, i just can't bare the thought of it.

not meant to be insulting mate, just saying that it is very exciting for us "across the pond" to be able to appreciate the tunes that are new to us and "oldies" to you all. we get to enjoy that feeling of discovery that many of you enjoyed back in the old days.

Also, I should note that the experience and knowledge of those from the UK Soul Scene doesnt go unappreciated, at least as far as I am concerned, however I dont think it is fair to dismiss the loyalty of fans here in the states. I, for one, love this music and I have every intention of promoting it in every way that is in my means, and giving it the respect that it deserves. Comments, like some of the above, make it seem as if we arent worthy of owning or cant appreciate these records as much as you folks can. And that sort of attitude is something that i feel very strongly against.

I don't understand all the negativity aimed at us here in the States. Why wouldn't somebody be happy to see the the soul scene thriving no matter where it was. We have a great thing happening over here at the moment. There is a real surgence of dedicated people coming out the woodworks, so to speak. We're working from the ground up, and I'm glad just to be a part of it.

I for one encourage all this talk, as it keeps the pressure on us. Thanks for the motivation!

For those in the UK that are blinkered enough to think that Northern Soul is still a uniquely British phenonmenon here's a few observations about the US RareSoul Scene from someone who's experienced it both sides of the pond.

The niggles of politics that abound in the UK just don't exist here (yet!)

The scene here is predominantly supported by keen knowledgeable "youngsters" who are searching out the real deal vinyl and are just as "dedicated" as anyone in UK. In fact if anything it's more difficult for them cos we (Brits) empied the place of most of the decent stuff a couple of decades ago!!

The size of the place and the expense of promoting venues is horrendous here. You can only respect the guys who do it. We lose $$$$$ every time, but we still keep on keeping on.

It's a fact that the UK is heamoraging 45s like never before to Ex pats and new fans worldwide. Surely that's good thing? Who yer gonna sell all yer rekkids too in 5-10 years time?

Dave, it certainly did work! I am very pleased to have met everyone there, whether US or UK citizen! Been a few comments on here of late about "greedy americans" and such. But like I said before, it's all fuel for the fire! I always thought the soul scene was ahead of the pack when it came to crossing boundries and stereotypes. I know soul fans from ages 15-50, in every color, all around the world. No other scene can compare to this type of universal demographic. And with good reason, too! It's the best f***in' music ever made!

Rod's been into the "Scene" from the very beginning (as I have) and years ago, US dealers couldn't wait to offload some of their stuff on Uk based collectors. Then over time the Rarity of some of these records became apparent, and slowly but sureley, the realisation kicked in that an aspect of Americas "Music heritage", had been sold mostly far too cheaply abroad. Nowadays people Stateside have wised up to whats happening, but the majority of Black Americans still have no idea of the rich tapestry of Collectable rare soul records, they have supplied to Great Britian. One mans leftovers etc..........

Understandably, credit should be given where it's due. If it weren't for the UK, there would be no Northern Soul scene. But...you weren't the first person to discover the music, so that makes you an imitator as well!! Obviously, you are completly ignorant of the strides we have made promoting soul music here. Please don't be so quick to write us off. I am am every bit as dedicated as anyone in the UK, and I know plenty others who feel the same way.

I can't see what the issue is with people from other countries also loving this music and buying the records. Some of the best nights in clubs that I have ever had have been in Gothenberg and Madrid, and getting to know people in other countries through the music is a fantastic opportunity. Some records will now go out of the UK, and I agree that may be a shame if we don't get to hear them, but surely playlists are not currently under threat due to people in other countries collecting records are they? It all seems a bit parochial to me to jump up and down saying "We invented it, you're copying us!". Being under 40 and from the south I guess that exactly the same argument applies to me as well. Can't say I'm that bothered.

My initial use of the term was meant to those that Boot lookalikes or try to deceive buyers that these are original. To those sellers that use terms like"looks Mint Visually (using the excuse that "well i never actually played it)and then you find it jumps or is edge warped.and to those that Wildly abuse a grading estimation finding when discs arrive they are only fit for the bin.My main concerns here was for younger enthusiasts that are trying to enter the scene becoming dissillusioned from deceptions in trying to get a collection tgether. And to all those that put everything and anything into the Northern auctions as NS.

Neither do I Mate, But if you think that most collectors are gonna sit on what they percieve as a "retirement fund " until they pop their clogs imo your being niaive Mate. The "selling up syndrome" from a lot of UK collectors has already started. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned......means I'll eventually have the opportunity to maybe get the stuff I haven't got, that I've always wanted, without resorting to selling what few remaining fully functioning, but scrawny, body parts I still have!

Well, the US is so vast if you live in Mansfield, Ohio you would have to

pay serious money to get around to find stuff. Why pay a dollar a gallon

to get to Cleveland or Detroit when you can pick up something via your

PC in the comfort of your own couch. I've been selling to US customers

for about 6 years. To be honest I never thought about asking them ??

Let's not forget the 'Empire State Soul Club' in New York, late '80's early '90's either. Connie, and Warren Lee doing the business long before. Warren used to work in Bleeker Bob's and Connie had a radio show, playing soul. Don't know what happened to them, lost touch, but they were into it way back Val Palmer used to visit them regularly, and I spent a great two weeks with them, early '90's. Great time!

I had no part in making the music I agree but I was the first person to discover plenty of good 45s such as Jackie Day. Phoenetics, Linda&Pretenders, True Image, Edddie Billups, Arthur Willis,Extremes, Combinations[Kimtone],Monique etc. I didn't do that by sitting in front of a computer and waiting for them to drop in my lap because the price of gas was prohibitive!!

Dave, I think we'll have to disagree cos the collectors I speak to are not planning on selling their 45s any time soon. In fact like you they're hoping prices will come down. Im sure some people are selling up here and there but that was always the case as people come and go on the scene.

I've no feelings either way about a US Northern Soul scene as it's irrelevant to what goes on over here. It's not grounded in the culture over there like say the Beach scene or the "Island" collectors and as such has no authenticity or deep roots to sustain it over the lean periods, which, luckily we in the UK were able to do.

Your right about the lack of roots etc here. That's the reason most US fans are still limpeted to the UK scene and struggle to have a vision for their own. But Rome wasn't built in a day and there's no alternative here. We either "get to it" or it won't happen. But then that was the case in UK 30 years ago eh?
