NiteOwl
Heard some whispers on the grapevine recently that this cracking venue may be closing... any truth in the matter....? Tony or anyone associated with it have the facts? - would be such a shame if it is the case.... hope not. Some fine music played and a really nice venue... Link to comment

Richard Bayley
Stevie's got it dead right......it's a "good news & bad news" scenario. The bad news is that The Manhattan Club is no more for the immediate future, the principle reason being numbers through the door at the venue. Harrogate support was small to non-existent, and there were fewer travellers than expected, too. Tony and Tracey want to run an "upfront" venue with fresh sounds, not just run-of-the-mill oldies nites, and some visiting punters gave some real stick out to them regarding the music policy, unfortunately.......... Now the Good News..... Tony and Tracey will be back in York, with resident DJ John Parker, 1st Saturday of the month every month from 2nd September, at The York Cricket Club. Same music policy as Holgate & Manhattan Club, launch guest DJ Colin Wood... Link to comment
Guest Trevski
Yup, H'gate has gone, due to lack of support from the local catchment area. very dissapointing, as it was a very good venue. On the positive side, Tony and Tracy will be back, in York, starting in September, with a new and by all accounts, very nice venue! More details nearer the time, but the excellent John parker will still be resident. see Richards post above, he must have started typing at the same time, but is faster than me! Must just pass a few words about The Manhattan Club. Firstly thankyou to everyone who supported us over the last year, We think the Manhattan has always been a good venue but has always lacked a local support Tony Dutton ran the venue for numerous years and eventually felt he was flogging a dead horse, Hockey took it on for a breif period and ended giving in, Tracy and myself felt we could give it a go, but alas no!!!! was it our music policy? People had suggested we were not playing to all the people who frequented the venue, but aswell as being upfront with our music, we still catered for the 7ts and classic oldies brigade, i think the venue is not is the right catchment area. Upfront soul unfortunately only caters for a minority of the soul scene, so we are going all out to cater for all . We also felt the sound system was not loud enough (this was due to the local residency) and could not go above a certain noise, we also think the venue was a bit too big so it never created the close atmosphere of the Holgate. Anyway we are glad to be back in York as this is where our core support has always come from so see you we hope on the 2nd September Kick off 8pm till 1am . Link to comment
