It seems to me that there's a whole pop/white/jazz/somethin' type of northern stuff that's gone in and outta favor in the UK that I'd think of, pardon the expression if it offends anybody, as 'cocktail northern'.

The ones that spring to mind immediately are "Don't Pity Me," Susan Rafey's "Hurt So Bad" and "Big Hurt," Gloria Grey "It's a Sweet World," that Lionel Hampton thing "Little Annie" somethin'... and billions more I don't know, of course.

Is there a word for that kind of sound? (Besides, as I'm sure some will posit, "pop garbage" and the like... )

Joannie Sommers...............................WOW! From the first drum beat intro' and "Don't pity me, babeh. Don't pity meee..........then things REALLY start taking off.........!! Joannie's velvelty tones and the musical arrangement send shivers down my spine every time i hear this wonderful song! A classic, 100%, for sure!!

It might be Northern Soul but it is still pop and as good a northern soul as it is I'm sick of f*cking hearing it, like listening to the top twenty countdown for don't know how many years....and still at number 8....Joannie Summers!
