sorry folks but  i've aready got this on dvd. Thing is i don't want too have to watch it again (sounds like a good excuse to go to the pub for a game of darts), (as i'm captain of our local darts team).

It's billed as comedy drama.....  can't argue with that.  

Hadn't seen this before last night's tv showing..

Cringe-worthy.

I do have a thing for totally rubbish, ill - conceived British flms that are destined for instant obscurity. So quite 'enjoyed' it on that basis...

Well I enjoy watching it , better storyline than Northern Soul the film, just my opinion, know I'm right though. Glad to have got that off my chest. Better get my tin hat on now.

Enjoyed it at the cinema but saw the other side last night - really just a spoof to file under comedy, and not too funny at that.

Soul Boy is a sugary sweet rom com that it would seem if Facebook is out to go by appeals to many on the cuddly, Hokey Cokey nostalgia scene whereas Northern Soul is in my view a cracking slab of social realism. 

 

Soul Boy is fundamentally a very poor film. The sub plot with the Irish guy and butchers wife makes no sense- no signifiers that they had a relationship let alone ready to leg it together; the main character shows little of no character transition and starts off a scaly burgler but after the opening becomes an instant cuddly teddy bear; the settings in the casino show the same 10 extras in close up shot; the streets etc are empty of props and extras - at all times you know you're watching a film rather than 'suspending disbelief'; the Juxtaposition with This England shots is jarring to say the least - a poor attempt to hide they couldn't afford extras. 

 

Then we have the dying fly, the walk from Wigan to Hanley and importantly the denouement- the famed dance off

 

if if you look at it as a film rather than a representation of Northern Soul it still is a very poor film.

Thought I might enjoy it a bit more than the first time............how wrong I was!!!!!    Absolute crap...........storyline rusbbish, actors rubbish...........the dance off laughable!!!

Watched it with my divvie partner and spent most of the film saying "That never happened" She liked it though.

Watched it for the first time on Friday. Didn't think it was as horrendous as some people make out. If you take it for what it is, a light hearted boy meets girl film, it isn't really that bad. If you're looking for a full on, true to life, Northern Soul docu-drama, then it's not for you.

I can't watch it because I had this mishap when I used to be an ice-skater. Don't want to talk about it

Has anybody noticed..the actor who plays the baddy in this...isn't he the same fella who plays Ray Hennigan (or whatever) in the other one...?

Shite film...but I did think better use of music than the other one..

Sorry to add, but there a two scenrs in this that i thought were particularly poor...

First one, where he takes gear for the first time and it goes all trippy...

Second, towards the end, he gets thumped and knocked out but nothing more is said about that then, next thing we know, he is riding a moped up a country lane! Where did the moped come from? Never mind..cos it breaks down and then he appears to decide he is going to run all the way to Wigan! Next scene - he's there!
