This is the discussion topic for article:

Looks really interesting Mike, I have a few CD's on this German label, some just straight deep soul but a couple of CD's with socially conscious songs from 70's mostly, and great sleeve notes. Good website as well, showing it as a really interesting, if a little diverse, label

This looks interesting, although the UK supplier website isn't too easy to find details of how to buy!!

When it said it was using "Afroamerican Prison Music from Blues to HipHop" as source thought this may be book but can't find any details other than article in socialist worker!!

Cheers

Jock

I read a review of this in The Independent t'other week, does look interesting though and from a historical viewpoint too, tried to look it up locally to no avail, didn't realise it was a german release, gonna have to widen my search as I really wouldn't mind a copy of this one, chain gang chants, prison moans, blues through to hip hop a diverse anthology indeed of what is an endemic problem that concerns the young black American male.

yep just been browsing the catalog page on their site https://www.trikont.com/catalogue/catalogue_themes.html

shows some great themed comps

as you say bit diverse, reading and a quick scan shows apart from the black music section which has some great listings, there's a fair few other interesting comps - a fair bit of early rnb , american yodelling !, englands dreams etc

the recent ones have mp3 clips but earlier ones real audio doesnt work for me, is that same for everyone else ?

the "source"bit Jock was just my cut and paste words meaning as a theme rather than a book
