Sleepless Nights 17th Nov

Recommended Posts

Our first night in our new venue, this is bout our 12th move in less than 5 years. But ever the optimist am feelin good bout tonight. We've recently left the Earl of Kildare, nice place but lacked the oomph associated with Dublin nights. A big buzz this month with Steve Cato of Manchester fame comin to town, a great Ireland and particularly Dublin supporter and like Steve Thomas and Carl W a great affinity held for him.

Got in the place on me own settin up Fridays always hard for peeps to aide me. A basement venue below a hotel with a largish dancefloor and holds about 200, it's a bit of the hub (100 clubbish) and our original famous home Doyles stuck together. Techie note: Being bigger than our last venue I used bass bins for the first time , not sure how I realised I needed them!

The place filled fairly early for a Sleepless night, and a real good vibe all night, I played a few at start, then Rory, back collecting/djn after selling up, some big tunes . Then follows Belfast SC jewel Phil Shields, got the floor workin from 9.30, no mean feat in Ireland as we tend to chat/drink then arrive later on.

residents Pip & Mitch sets kept the thing moving on, there was an air of expectancy about the night, with the crowd piling in from the paul weller gig, on comes paul grant, proving why he's one of Irelands best, setting us up for the finale.

Martin Goggin, deep soul scribe found northern via Jimmy Small ex wales now in Cork, so many soulful tunes the chairs and tables yet again moved further away to create an ever expanding dancefloor. Steve Cato one of the most genuine guy's , showed us why "Soul or Nothing" has to be on everyone's agenda (like us he's on the move but its people and attitude not the architecture that drives it)

I stumble on and too quickly the six and half hours + are gone

was great to see so many that loyally travel rewarded with a real top night, Jim, Trish & Sally and CHARLIE  from Belfast, Bill, Dave & Wexford Soulsters, Clonmel Crew and all the other's who keep this scene going despite no allnighter available. And even better to know that Cork, Belfast and more are growing their own clubs.

For all who travelled over in the last 4 years, this venue beats anything we had before, really.

Roll on 22nd Dec.
