The Christine Cooper thread got me thinking, why don't we do one on rarer issue's & demo's. So if it's one you dont see every day of the week, post it up.

Found a few copies of the Nella Dodds on issue, all in one box - but - they were all mispressed. When you played them it was a C&W song. Both sides. I should have bought one just for the sake of it...might be why it didnt sell well as the momentum on the song might have been over by the time they tried to re-press them.

I met a guy a few Years ago, who was one of the Supervisors at the RCA pressing plant in Indiana during the 1960's. As you'd imagine all promo's were freebies, sent out (and then forgotten about) to Radio Stations, D.J.'s and the like, whereas Issues were sent out on sale or return. once returned to the plant, the centre was punched out and the vinyl then recycled to make more records. I'd hazard a guess that many of the other Major's employed the same system.

Promo's were also used a "wage increase" for salesmen. When I worked at a distributor in the late 80s, the salesmen were given extra promos to take and sell to increase their wages.

I collect mainly U.S.A. stuff now, Still love the U.K. Labels though.

Fascinating stuff Des, once read about the day they shut Brunswick records down, along came the demo men, and procedded to destroy a quarter of a million records with chainsaws.................. , think the story is in the book "Chicago Soul", a mighty fine read.

Just read through the thread, saw someone posted an alt take of Freddie Houston, my copy is the acetate of the actual old town release, bang same record. Just to redress the balance and add interest for the 70's fans, this is a Allied Records Test Pressing of The Gifted Four "Are You Choosing" which later came out on CSC, then later on Hamito-Semitica.

pale blue issue is easily the rarest though some turned up a couple of years back and I remember being unable to sell an issue even at 100 quid

When you mentioned Pete's name & a rare record, insatntly makes me think of a major label, black issue. Shocked when he posted a picture of it. Am I right Pete?

This one Ady? This is actually still here in my box, I sold it to my mate John for peanuts really, mainly because I wanted it to go to someone who'd never sell it, but it is actually here.

This site >> HERE << won't account for items that were not considered as rare, as you say, but will give you the yearly comparisons of items that were sold as rare back in any year....

Interesting to see just how much "value" has either been added to, or taken away from, an item over the years....

The Other Side of Barbara Acklin depends on which Brunswick DEMO release you find.

The 9-780xx series seems to be its own demo series- maybe a way to get a second push for the record? Ive seen 2 of these on this series now:

9-78025 - Adams Apple

9-78028 - B Acklin/Jackie Wilson

Perhaps not a mega rare 45 but a nice issue and pretty hard to find, fantastic double header and i reckon i had a stroke of luck picking this up last year for about twenty quid?

The issue I have has some water label damage, but it was the same green color, although the label layout is much different.

Just noticed a guy mentioned "Somebody Somewhere Needs You" - Ike and Tina Turner on UK Warner Brothers single

Warners were pressed and distributed by Pye at the time and have got a copy of the EP containg "Somebody Somewhee Needs You" on UK Pye (not Warners) test pressing, with info typed on, ie not a white label, which is tasty,

Did have a London demo of "Open The Door"/"Our Love" - Darrell Banks with the titles and artist TYPEWRITTEN ON - very much regret selling that.

Here is something. Not sure on how rare it is/ Looking at the numbers it's not a 9-series but has a 55381 number. Given to me by older brother Dave on my 40th as someone had kindly absconded with my uk red Brunswick demo! Anyway thanks again Dave. Was informed that it might have been recalled because Brunswick - or whoever were not happy with the title of Nothing but... and decided to change it.

Any other info on this..?

I rate this as seriously tough to find on W/Demo. I searched high and low when Eddie posted his but couldn't find one anywhere, in any condition. Managed to wrestle Eddie's from him eventually. Cheers Matey. :lol:
