I can assure you it was very loud. If you danced at the front and hung around by the stage, your ears were ringing throughout Sunday. As you walked towards the stage, you could feel the sound waves hi

Chris . I truly can't remember.. Good chance it was because the speakers where up on the stage which was quite high so the sound would be slightly over your head. Never spent that much time on the balcony to tell if it was louder up there. Do remember that you could always have a chat without too much trouble 🤭😎

I can assure you it was very loud. If you danced at the front and hung around by the stage, your ears were ringing throughout Sunday. As you walked towards the stage, you could feel the sound waves hitting your chest, that’s how loud it was. Sure it was quieter up on the balcony towards the back. I would imagine plenty of regulars suffered from permanent hearing loss such was the output from the speakers.

Frankie. 2nd pillar from the front right hand side looking towards the stage was OK. I really can't remember how loud it was

It was really loud upfront, but the Casino had many little out of the way corners and in the record bar, it was not as loud.   Of course anyone who was feeling really, really good would not notice the volume too much!!!

This one. My local Library shares this publication online via an App called Libby where I came across it by chance.

Also interesting that the Francesco Mellina article mentions an intense smell of talcum powder. I very much doubt this as about 300 of those present smoked, so the air was thick with fumes and fag dust. Yes, a good few sprinkled talc, but not enough to overwhelm the smoke. The scent of Brut and West was definitely in the air. I will not lower the tone of the discussion by mentioning other smells.

Definitely the smell of Brut , the go to deodorant/ aftershave. The slight smell of dampness especially if you where in early , always a warm humid smell when you went back in after been outside  for any length of time.  smoke droppings from the ceiling was the killer on decent shirts.

Yep, I soon learned not to wear a white shirt at Wigan.

Does anyone else remember how the condensation would cascade down the walls on the stairs between the record bar & the balcony ? I used to stand there for a fag & a cool down

Also the occasional waft of Ralgex which always made me gag.

Loud not so bloody bad it was loud , every conversation I reckon I had was with my hand around my gob and other persons ear , taking it in turns to speak avoiding spit and horrible breath that was in mrms mainly as I never spent much time  in the big hall , much preferred the nutters in mrms like minded people btw nearly deaf now

Hey Paul, perfectly put. The fear of dog breath. Still happens now !! Next it's armpits and then clothes that went into the washing on Monday, left to stagnate and reappear at the weekend, the warmer the clothes the stronger the smell, a heady mixture of catpiss, brut, ralgex etc etc, happy days I must be at a soul do, cheers

I can trace my tinnitus back to one night talking (listening mostly) to Val from Bromsgrove right in front of the speakers on the stage (why did I do that)! I suppose its an ever present reminder of the All-Nighters.
