R.I.P. Joe Simon! Sad news. Joe was one of the great Southern Soul singers in the 1960's who specialized in deep country soul ballads. He later went to Philly and hooked up with Gamble and Huff and revitalized his career in the 70's with Drowning in the Sea of Love. He returned to the church after retiring from the music biz and became a bishop.

Grammy award-winning R&B singer Joe Simon has died aged 85, according to reports.

The artist, who sang the 1972 hit Power of Love and was sampled by hip hop group OutKast, died on Monday in his hometown near Chicago, US music magazine Billboard said.

Simon was known also for US R&B chart-topper The Chokin Kind in 1969 and 1971’s Drowning in the Sea of Love.

His 1975 track Get Down, Get Down (Get on the Floor) Simon’s highest entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number eight.

Joe Simon RIP - so many fantastic records. A great southern soul artist. Lovely warm voice. Cherish his records. Neither of these are that well known but these are quality.

 

Rest in peace Joe Simon you enhanced my life , no sad songs though, sure you a had a good life, you certainly enriched the human race with your talent .
