Apparently the hotel we are staying in started life as a brothel! Room service could be fun ph34r.gif

We are arriving on Thursday so might have to explore on Thursday night

Mike B

...nearly all the hotels in St.Pauli started as brothels! It`s one of the worlds biggest redlight districts and room service is not inclueded for sure  !

For the people who arrive on thursday:

There is the regular `After work Soul Club` at the Riverside 5 Club with DJ Martin Crout behind the decks. The Alldayer will be there as well...so come down to the Club at Fishmarket 5 (Fischmarkt 5) for an early session and a few drinks.

good :D

maybe we can convince Mr. Tolbert to have a free "welcome soul-sourcers" drink for all soul-source members at the alldayer on saturday

If only there were "Soul-Source" badges available then we could all wear them and meet fellow soullies, plus get a free drink of course :D

Four of us coming from sunny Derby, and Liz is well excited now she knows her favourite Uncle Tony is going as well !!

Unfortunately because of work we will be on the 8.00pm Friday night flight from Stanstead to Lubeck so we won't get into Hamburg until around 11.30 so it'll be a quick drop off of cases and straight to the Mandarin Casino. Anyone else booked on that flight?

 ...but...Applecrumble be careful with short cuts for your `Soul-Source` badges. `SS`-badges are not really `en Vogue` nowadays in Germany. :D

I've only just noticed this post

:lol::):P:lol::yes:laugh.gif:g:

Really looking forward to it now. Only five more days at work, then a day off to put my head in relax mode and buy some Euros, and then fly out Friday morning for a weekend without sleep, but with lots of Soul.

Now for the serious questions. What is the best local beer, bearing in mind I like the dark beers rather than the lager type ? Is there a local bar where we can meet up before the niter starts ? And finally where's the nearest tobacconist that sells Old Holborn because I've run out of cheap tobacco ?

Dark beer is not very poular in northern Germay, have no idea about a good dark beer (personally I don't like them I and don't know anybody from here who like them)...try the local ASTRA or HOLSTEN-Pilsener.

My absolute favorite is JEVER (lots of them  )

Cheap Tobacco.... try SCHWARZER KRAUSER .... but this stuff is only for the tough ones..

not really surprised you would come up with an answer to the beer question :(

Jever Pilsener comes highly recommended, actually it is from my home town in the very north of germany, maybe a little too "bitter" for some tastes..

Dave, you don`t come to a nice, snowy place with a christmas market this time (Nuremberg).

You`ll stay a whole weekend directly in one of the biggest redlight districts on the world. There are around 800 bars, pubs, brothels, theaters, clubs and so on...there are around 100.000 visitors `each` weekend. It`s a complete different planet to the rest of Germany. I`m sure you`ll like it.

Your hotel have a bar and I think it`s a good meeting point before the first Allnighter and after the first Allnighter. Your coming to a serious drinking men paradise, because some of the bars never closed...and I mean never.

beer: try ASTRA or HOLSTEN (and forget the Holsten-shite they sell in slim bottels in England). Both works well...

tobacco: Schwarzer Krauser is your taste, I think

Link to comment

Oh yes, Astra, I love it because I can drink tons and tons of it....but I do hate the headaches the next day...obviously Dave, you should try some of the local specialities ( when we go to the fishmarket early in the morning...Rollmops etc...)

Dave,

I thought Ralf's reply was hilarious as well, glad to see our German friends have a sense of humour and good beer of course!

Hey Toby,

not at all.

Hope everyone finds his/her right plane (and I`m glad to know Dave Rimmer keep an eye on John Weston in this moment) . ...and I also hope the weather will be fine like today (the sun is shining on the roofs of Hamburg) ...so nobody become seasick when we`re all going on board for the boat trip on sunday!

See you all in 4 days.
