What could be the take on this snipe increment situation ;

I'm the one marked in red with my odd decimal maximum bid.

The highest winning bid has logically a £10 increment above mine.

While the highest bid below me is some £100.21 lower... Gap !

Between that bid and mine, no £ increment what so ever !!!

The winning bid was placed 1 second before my maximum snipe bid.

Esnipe is now eBay's tool and to me all this snipe situation seems rather suspicious.

What are your thoughts on it ? The winning snipe bid was higher than mine OK.

My take on that is; 221.77 was that bidders max bid. The person who won it put a snipe in for whatever amount? But at least 331.98. I’m assuming 321.98 was your max bid. I would guess that the max bidders snipe going in at just 1 second before you would have taken him to 231.77 and the highest bid, but then your bid went in (pretty much at the same time) and because they had a higher max bid than your max bid  the bidding went straight to your max bid and then him one increment above you. That would account for the large bid increment because it sounds to me that you and the high bidder were in a two person final bid shoot out.

I hope that makes sense.

A recent eBay innovation involves them not stating ‘You Won This Auction’ but instead saying hold on while we calculate who won or words to that effect. This seems mighty odd. Yes, a last second collision of multiple bids could need sorting out. On the other hand though, this action gives eBay more time to act in their own interests...

Exactly ! But that is really problematic. That since 'esnipe' (ex eazysnipe) is now eVilBay and their business is the same... My maximum bid is secressy. Or is it now ? Here it shows that it's not. Whatever the cue in line or on time their algorythm have to sort out. The fall came that side... With an icrement of €100.21 !!! Bonus for all sides but the bidder, payer (PLAYER) and in the end loser. In a casino situation it's 'fraud' on the house.

Lucky seller and eVilBay (% fee). Actually not totally since the winner (spoiler) dropped down and the seller came back to me offering me to have it at my highest bid. But that is not right with all that in scheme. Even if one think it could be a 'happy win-win' situation. Only in the bigger picture it stinks IMO. Esnipe answer to me was a legal technical blurb from a man in suit. YUK ! Not worth a better comment than that.

ebay doesn't own esnipe. 

ebay would never encourage sniping as it usually makes bidders pay less than they would've if they'd bid the "regular" way and pushed the price up (resulting in lower fees for the seller).

All you need to do is win a record then the message flashes up. I don’t know if eBay have published this new tactic. I got the new message at least twice when competing for records a week so ago, but not all the records I won. As mentioned above, instead of instant confirmation of the winning bid, the message informs the bidder calculations are taking place and to refresh the page to see the bidding history.

Maybe not. I'll try to dig into that. Anyway they definetaly got close-er as now esnipe invites you to 'snipe' directly from eBay... As for the difference in intrest between them two it would BE clear if only they kept their distances while leaving room for competition like it was. Not so much anymore I'm affraid. And I'm not paranoid. In this case and the esnipe lawyer type of answer (copy & paste prototype legal type of crap - I can copy & paste on here if ever with the same talent they have - not making the same sallary though) testify that their checking their backs... The initial commercial argument in this case (save money for the bidder) is not relevant evidently. Although they present their apologies. But not presenting concern on the matter. Ask how a Custom controler checks a casino fairness in money games. Here he has a case of serious concern. A technical algorythm debrief would be the first step to resolve what would seem as a breach to re-establish 'trust' in the tool. If not further.

Just use another sniper if you don't have trust in esnipe. There are lots of alternatives out there (Gixen for example).

Yep I even contemplate the option to loose my credits with them. Like I did loose mine with Bidnip in the past for other reasons then going to esnipe... The good old days of crate digging or bidding on paper with a stamp or by phone was another kinda 'fun'.

....Just a thought, is it normal for your bid which was lower than the winning bid to register as a bid anyway if you put it on after he did ? I never check to see if my bid shows if I lose.

You might very well be right.. it's been a while since I bought something off ebay.. gotta check back on an old credit card statement.. sorry for wrong info then..

They only take the fee if you win. You don't have to pay for losing snipes. I haven't used them for some time so feel free to correct me if things have changed.

No, no.. I'm sure you're right. I can recall AUCTIONSNIPER on my credit card statement here and there which proves your point..
