I always thought Yate was one of the very best Allniters with many unique sounds and can't see why Kent with their obvious Yate connections haven't put a CD out. I know we discussed this a couple of years ago, but as far as I know nothing has happened.

Whilst we used to go to Wigan at the same time, Yate had its own feel, sometime bordering on the crazy, but always fun!

Agree with Jerry, same night you would also of heard, Jon & The Wierdest, Purple Mundi, Ronnie Forte, Four Tracks and my left-field stuff!!!!!!!!!!. So, Jerry what was my left-field stuff then

Dave, I remember we got in early the one night and you were doing the first spot, you spotted us lot & told us to drop everything and dance. So we did only to then hear Patula Clark singing the 10cc track 'I'm No In Love' - that goes down with Clarke's rhythm stick, which I also danced to coz I was pilled up, did I say that

Yup, well OK we weren't the first to play it but I bought it on spec and starting playing it a lot, several others picked up on it as well. Seem to remember someone going into print saying that Wigs oldies were far less imaginative than ours, maybe because the average age at Yate was slightly higher. Couldn't imagine hearing Etta James/Sugar Pie Desanto at a Casino oldies session but Tony Ellis used to pack the floor with it.

And Lloydee, Petula Clark "I'm not in love"? Nah...but I remember Dee Dee Sharps version on TSOP getting spins. Possibly that??

Love this. One of the first records I ever bought.

Anyone guess which soul sourcer has a bit of a passion for Yate?

It's funny you should mention the average age Jerry. From a personal point of view, on the couple of times i visited the venue i found it a bit, not sure how to phrase it properly, but a bit insular shall we say ?

Nothing extreme, but i didn't feel as comfortable as i did at other venues, so perhaps it may have been the age factor as i would have only been about 17/18 at the time i went there .

Listening to others everyone seems to have really enjoyed it so maybe it was just me, but i didn't fall in love with the place as i did with, say, the Casino.

Just an observation & not trying to knock it

Your a nice lad, but lets not turn this into an excuse to let Wigan off the hook...............I went to Wigan & loved it, but Yate was one of the most influential & under valued venues ever IMHO Ian Clark & others were taking the piss out of Wigan at times with some of the stuff that was being played. There are loads & loads of things that were played at Yate before they travelled Northward & attributed to others. Stafford & the 100 Club, venues that have kept the scene alive over the years playing proppa NS with a passion & from the heart, owe much more to Yate than they do to the Casino................this is not an opinion its a fact !!!!.

Lets get Greety, Shay, Ady P, Dave T, Hippo, Tony Ellis, Clarkie (unlikely) & the rest of the gang together again, not for a nostalgia trip, but because these guys are still playing credible soul records that would make for a fantastic night of soulful shenanigans. Nobody living on past glories here.............Yate was the real deal.
