I've just watched 'This England' again and was wondering if anyone knows what were the actual tracks they were dancing to or were they overdubbed at a later time.

Was it staged, contrived and multi-takes?

Some people might have attended because it was being filmed, but did others stay away because if it?

And was the filming 'the beginning of the end' for want of a better expression

I don't know the answer to your questions; other than I'm pretty certain it wasn't the beginning of the end. 

Another question, and I might have known this at one point but forgotten; who was the geezer who was the main protagonist? Blue jumper and white shirt?

Not staged but when they filmed all the lights came on which semi emptyed the floor - taking photos/ flash or lights on and filming, kinda put you in a whos that why are they filming paranoid feeling - mixed with amphetamine

 I came up on a coach from Aldershot it left the roundabout club about 6 at night - the coach was as usal for an oldies night packed plus picked a couple more up at Birmingham Hilton - not once did I hear anyone mention that there was filming being done at the Casino that night

The filming boosted the scene directly after - some people lasted some people liked the gear and some people wondered what it was all about and didn’t get it - end of the 70ts some strange sounds getting spun - Joe90 etc - However the casino died in 81 in a respective way - and those who went have memories that will last a life time - the good times and the bad 👍🏻

the mute 'out takes' that went around on vhs a bit back may give an idea of how the filming was done on the night, from them it seemed to be just almost a continuous point and shoot?

muckers and I didn't go cause of the filming, we were aware of it, think went week before and there was a fair old bit of controversy about it

I'd say nah

the whole thing was/is cyclic and for me any of these  'beginning of the end' statements have usually more to do with the persons age at the time rather than the actual events, maybe food for a seperate topic?

I presume your referring to Dave Withers? a very respected guy / record dealer / DJ from the Manchester area now residing in the U.S.A.

the programme also featured him selling records on Bury Market and operating a lathe.

Bought loads of records of him as you said a great dealer, with some good priced 45s and Lps his lists were well antipated by me.

John Doe Music was his mail order business I think ?.

Definitely Dave Withers - had many 45's from him back in the day. He was jointly responsible (with Rod Shard) for the boat load of Danny Moore "Somebody New" 45's that turned up post Wigan. Cracking bloke

Well in all my years I would never have known that was Dave Withers.

I knew it was being filmed, but still went, although me and my then girlfriend, Janet O'Hare went to my Grandads flat for a few hours before walking down to the Casino. The lights were still on for a few minutes when we arrived but we steered clear of any cameras. We can be seen, just, in the morning shots outside, looking out of the back of Denny Johnsons car, parked right outside. We weren't happy about the disruption at the time but didn't stop me going right to the end in 81.

I had no idea they would be filming on the night ,though I feature in the dancing and walking across the dance floor with my Nighter bag and sheepskin .I remember the first record I heard that night was Danny Williams - Whose Little Girl Are You ,and also recall buying The Moods - Rainmaker on Wand .The footage was used in the film Soulboy ,I received a payment from the film for using the footage of me ,which was nice .The music was dubbed on afterwards ,Sidras Theme ,Rosemary and Judy Street are 3 I remember .It commercialised the scene for a while ,but ultimately greater days were to come musically from ‘79 onwards .
