Windlesoul
Yes it is. If you have any confusion, it may be because at one point he had a tash, though not on The Beat from memory. These (mainly) WLAC guys were the pinnacle of Nashville R&B promotion on the airwaves in the 60s - from left, John Richbourg (John R, Sound Stage 7 etc), Gene Nobles, Don Whitehead, Bill "Hoss" Allen, Herman Grizzard. Windlesoul
Here's part one of an extract from the particular chapter(s) in House of Broken Hearts where I covered the role of Nashville DJs, radio and TV in promoting soul / R&B. If you want the whole book it's available in PDF format on my site. Part one: https://windlefreelance.com/2022/08/01/radio-and-the-1960s-nashville-rb-scene/ And here's part 2... as a complete aside the pic with John 'R' and Jackey Beavers which has a couple of other guys in it - I speculated the others might have been Continental Showstoppers (knew it was a long shot) but since then its transpired they're not. Someone manage to identify them but can't remember who! Roscoe Shelton / Sam Baker / Allen Orange maybe? https://a-nickel-and-a-nail.myshopify.com/blogs/news/radio-tv-and-the-nashville-r-b-scene-part-two-e-mark-windle Edited April 18 by Windlesoul 1 1 Link to comment Social source share
