Popular Post Peter99
I had to see the liver consultant at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham this morning. I was very anxious and was accompanied by my mental health care coordinator Danielle. The hospital was spotless, staff warm, friendly and reassuring; including the consultant who was very informative and very lovely. Everything completed exactly on time. I can't think of any thing they might have done to improve things. My liver disease is stable, and just need to have two scans and another endoscopy in the next month. So, I'm pleased with everything. Not having had a drink since December 4th 2021 has been the main factor. So, despite years of cuts and a starvation of funds the people running things are doing an amazing job. Three cheers for our amazing doctors, nurses, consultants ,administrative staff, the cleaners and anyone else. Popular Post Twoshoes
Good to hear you are doing good Peter, I had little interaction with the NHS on the hospital side of things other than a couple of work related injuries and a near death experience which I was lucky to survive. That was until five or six years ago when I had a problem with my lungs which led onto an unrelated heart bypass. What I think some people don't realise is the sheer numbers of people the NHS deal with on a daily basis. I was totally taken by surprise by the number of people in the waiting area at the start of my heart investigations. Since that time I have nothing but praise for everyone I have encountered, ok waiting times can be a bind ,with two ongoing problems one couldn't be sorted without some kind of resolution on the other hence I was in the system for 18 months before eventually having my bypass. My lung problem is not going to go away which means regular checkups, the staff are always helpful with appointment times, the Dr I see is totally lovely, her secretary is always available on the end of the phone should i have any concerns, the staff I have seen for the tests I have to have are always friendly, patient and understanding. I do find it hard to hold my tongue when I hear people complaining and being rude to staff though these are in the minority. My one minor irritation about my hospital visit and this is purely personal and in no way a complaint, there are people whose conditions are far worse than mine, the Pulmonary unit for breath related problems is at the opposite end of the hospital to xray which involves a walk along what must be one of the longest hospital corridors in the country and then some. I echo your sentiments regarding all staff from the top of the tree to the bottom 5 Link to comment Social source share

I echo your sentiments regarding all staff from the top of the tree to the bottom Thank you for your kind words. (I'm so sorry I always forget your first name - part of being a bit mental ) It sounds like you've had a rough old time, although you have some sense of stability - similar in a way to me I guess, although your transplant, building up to it and then recovery must of been very frightening. I'm pleased that you have a good clinical team around you, they sound amazing. I hope you continue to thrive and to stay as well as you possibly can - you're a decent man. In terms of corridors I think if put end to end Queens Medical Centre corridors would stretch over 25 miles - I'm pleased I don't have to walk the length of those! I always look out for your positive posts on here; stay well my friend. Peter 2 Link to comment Social source share

Solidsoul
Last night I had to take my Mother to A&E. No problem with the ground floor staff, they are trying their best, but the management organisation is terrible! And where are the top managers? All gone home for the evening and off on the weekends! Our A&E last night was a hell hole. People crammed into a low ceiling room with no windows and poor ventilation. No seats left, so people sleeping on the floors or standing against walls. After hours of waiting we finally gave up and I took my Mother home. A truly awful experience to put sick people through! Robr
Let me make this quite clear this statement is only related to me and my wife's own experience regarding her mother and the treatment she received at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. In this instance over a period of 5 weeks, whilst my mother in law was admitted to a ward, I have never come across such a bunch of incompetent, disorganised, uninterested, unprofessional and lazy staff. Our family no longer "big up" the untouchable NHS because of this experience. Thankfully I know this doesn't apply to the vast majority of staff across the country but they are not all worth clapping for, believe me. 1 Link to comment Social source share

This only happens because of bad management and incompetent supervision by managers! I'm sorry to read about your Mother-in- laws hospital experience. Sounds like my stay in hospital Edited October 1 by Solidsoul Link to comment Social source share
