Rockgazers is terrific and never seems to get a mention, let alone a spin or two. Gotta admit that Kumano never did it for me but the others are all good. There are so many 70s tunes to play it makes you wonder why the Scene went backwards and started playing Rockabilly tunes :angry: IMHO ofcourse!

Alaways been a fan of Oscar Perry and recently only heard the Kumano track (cos Im a uoung un ) -

John, was playing the Laura Lee only yesterday. Excellent. I'd forgotten how good the other side was too: "If I'm Good Enough To Love (I'm Good Enough To Marry)."

Records that might have sounded commonplace years ago are sometimes actually pretty amazing to revisit. To me there was a depth of quality in seventies soul music that we may have taken for granted in the past. The skills utilised in the vocals, production and playing on these tracks was sometimes breathtaking.

I agree Gareth , the quality of some x - over and out and out 70s are ace , a glorious period - the thing that has always amused(the soul scenes not supposed to be funny) and delighted me is that some 70s have the ability to start really poorly but halfway through you've heard something that makes you have a complete change of heart , as yo,ve mentioned earlier a great piece of production wizardry etc ,

Whats the story about Styrene and vinyl? Are they both originals, just pressed at different plants? I didnt realise there were 2 different copies until I just browsed on Ovenchips.

According to Ovenchip's it wasn't booted.... just an issue on each.... I too thought the styrene was a boot.... same reason as above.... the sound appears "low"....

So who's to say Ovenchip's knows best on this one ....

Remains one of them "is it or isn't it" questions I suspect unless anybody else can shed some light on it....

Dave Love is superb, the same backing as the Scientests of Soul (i think?), must say though that my fav 70's sound has to be Vivian Copeland and Chaos...getting major turn table play in my living room.

Jamie, the Judy Freeman and BlackRock has been a big revival darn sarf for a few years now, Ady C and then Greg playing the unreleased six or seven minute version via acetate. It's an incredible record, surely one of the most soulful records ever played on the Northern scene.
