Blackpool Mecca Reunion

Recommended Posts

Well the Blackpool Mecca reunion has come and gone, and speaking as someone who never actually went to the Mecca; well 30 years later I'm regretting missing out.

Any way the the place was packed from 8:30 on-wards, and the dance floor even more so, the temperature in that room reminded me of my days at the Casino but without the nicotine rain  .

The music was superb with classics all night just what we were looking forward to, do we really have to wait another year for the next one?

philh wasnt saturday night just brilliant I only got in at 9 , and the place was heaving. The atmosphere was brilliant and the music , well for me couldn't be bettered all the classics from the early days right through to the modern stuff. Colin curtis probably is not everyone's cup of tea but everyone there new what they where getting . I Went to the mecca from 74 onwards and saturday was like a condensed version of the story . That dancefloor was full from nine right through ,and an added bonus was the cheap beer ![if you could get served] I thought that was a nice touch though , the big picture of the man himself mr levine, as you went in I wonder if he was invited ! A really atmospheric venue , i dont know the numbers but i'd guess 300+ . yes its only on once a year isnt it. maybe thats why it was so good .Well done Mr wakelin who promoted it How about twice a year bryan

Hats off you Mr Waklin for this. Apparently 400plus in there on Saturday and a top night was had by all. Talking to Bryan on Sunday while his phone was going off all the time with people still buzzin about it. Most of the memorabilia went walkies although Mr Levines picture was left alone  wonder why!!

Next years main event already booked for September 27th.

Mr Curtis in the meantime may just be spinning some Mecca Classics at Prestwich on Friday 2nd November....watch this (and a few other) spaces on that one

Where was this event held pls ? Just can't find any info on it

the mecca reunion was held upstairs at the brunswick club, just of central drive and just a stones throw from the mecca building which is now a bowling alley. if it gets turned into a shopping mall we could have a reunion there! Seriously the brunswick is great venue for it see you there next time
