Great thread thanks for starting it Dave lots of great cheap (not in a bad way) sounds and you can tell where everyone coming from Above is link to my record of the day, My Ipod is stuffed with loads of soul and funk and jazz from 45s, albums cds so I don't know what I've got on it, One early morning whilst walking the dog this came on and I was transfixed! please follow the link and give it a listen you will not be dissapointed Rocked my socks off that morning and for along time afterwards!!!!!!
  4. Those guys better get down to a 'boot' fair, lol Seriously though I used to be out most Sundays picking up UK reissues cheaply but these are getting fewer all the time
  5. There's a G Perry D Perry Z Perry and L Perry writer credits on a lot of records I think The Adventurers Easy Baby is credited to one or all of them
  6. Good for you!! You should also check Call Me on Epic (should set you back £30-£40 depending on condition) and L ove Loanreleased as a 45 on the Expansion label (was originally album only) and yes the Perry brothers had a great deal to do wit Jackie Wilsons Beautiful Day album. In fact the Perry names turn up quite a bit on the Brunswick label. Jeff did a few more singles for Arista most noteworthy being Unforgettable Person
  7. Fontella Gas?
  8. I'm guessing this encompasses most post 60's tunes, But when did you become aware of these releases being played on the Northern scene my own experience was with Love Factory & Don't Depend on Me, which I think were pre Carstairs? and of course Captain of your Ship was an early one from the Casino. So lets have your recollections
  9. Big Sambo now there is a name thats fallen out of use in these pc times. Still don't know if the issues are legit and just how many big tunes came out on the imprint? Georgia Prophets got a release I think the original was on Smash? John
  10. This label seemed to do quite a few reissues during its time I've had Tony Middleton Paris Blues and seen Panic, I Travel Alone. I believe Ever Again was released on it to. All seem to be from the Amy Mala Bell catalogue, were they kosher? anybody got a list? whats the story?
  11. Always preferred the live cut of Donald Byrds Dominoes to the studio cut and GSH's live cuts of Home is where the hatred is and the Bottle are pretty lively (in a jazz funk kinda way)

  17. Dance Dance Dance Casualeers just reminds me of a bad night I had at the Casino and this was played what seemed like every twenty minutes!!!
  18. Not really that interesting a thread, and i could care less but for me the term 'Northern Soul' now represents an oldies night, baggy trousers, circle skirts etc, etc, it just doesn't seem to represent the cutting edge anymore ( and probably hasn't for years ), i feel the more progressive nights seem to adopt the term 'Rare Soul' and have for a good many years, in a way i suppose distancing themselves from the Sainsburys checkout 'Best Northern Soul Ever Cd' mentality ( if you know what i mean..! ) As a teenager 'Northern Soul' to me was underground and cool, but it's as far removed from cool as it could ever be for me, i'm just a soul music fan, i embrace over 47 years of music, not just a narrow band of say 4 years (64-68 ?). I actually find the t-shirts, badges mildly amusing, i always hated it when people said 'Keep the Faith'..do me a favour.... Perhaps what its really saying is......Northern soul strangles the 'Penis of Progress'
