  2. I think John Grant played it at Wigan
  3. The uk issue been rising in value over the years, (a vg us demo went for £136 in may) pity mike post doesn't do the same
  4. Dave Evison request just played Love You Baby Eddie Parker.
  5. I had to make do with the boot until I got a white stamped demo, the sound clarity and volume was miles better I like Fred Hughes' solo version from his Wand album, more crossover than northern though
  6. Guess it "slipped through your fingers"........coat and hat please
  7. Play them both, the boot has very poor fidelity.
  8. Had to do a double take with that one
  9. I'm not condoning the practice, but the Eric reissues, Gerri Granger, Reperata & Bernie Williams could very easily have photo print labels stuck on and passed as originals
  10. Funky 8 corners and Ton of Dynamite back to back play loud to enjoy.
  11. Good old Colin..... he should be writing the descriptions for Manship
  12. Would that be the same label as Crystal Motion, Ebb Tide and Vivilore Jordan? and perhaps Rosey Jones? is Frank Fivoranti involved? why so rare?
  13. One day you look in the mirror and see your dad staring back at you
  14. Overlooked that album many times in Skeleton Records Birkenhead because it didn't have You Hit Me on it £1.80 was the price!

    Landfill along with me
  16. Heard the ABC version 1st at Wigan and picked up a copy soon after, played alongside Fantastic Johnny C, Eloise Laws and the Anderson Brothers and sat comfortably amidst the monster 60s tunes of the day. Not typically northern but possessing enough of a bassline to make it dance able and that unmistakable opening guitar riff. First copy I owned was on very heavy vinyl, I have a styrene press now. Great Record. The ABC version is a re-recording of the Boola Boola release that was a local Bay Area hit causing ABC to pick up the group its a pity the other release Hanging on to a Lie wasn't put on the b side what an awesome double sider that would be.
  17. You've still got one? I can remember ordering a record, It arrives, I've not liked it enough to buy and two weeks later its in the bargain box at 25p or 5 for a pound
  18. Remember the weekly release sheet on shiny paper that featured the top 40? the bubbling unders and new releases different colour each week as Pete mentioned we would scour throught it ordering things on Motown Stax Atlantic and any other lable or artist that we knew had soulful connections, record shops featured booths that let you listen to your order first before buying (could only afford one 45 a week) so you could choose your favourite. Hearing new soul releases on the radio or at discos was very difficult. Most radio station record libraries had issues as well as demos my Garnett Mimms Looking for You came from the BBC libarary as an issue.
  19. Is It the same group that had a release on Spectrum Doggone I Love You, great crossover
  20. Before the internet gave us the sounds records were chosen blind by their artists/labels/producers (the latter to a lesser extent) even a ZTSC no. stamped in the runout groove gave the vinyl a "pedigree" or so we thought, Buy them, Play them and compare them to popular sounds already discovered was what I and my mates did. 1000th post coming up , do I get a prize?
  21. I'd like to know when and were Kenny Ballad and the Fabulous Midnighters I'm Losing You on Roulette was 1st (if ever) played its a record I've owned and known for ever but I can't place were I 1st heard it
  22. Some of the funk brothers moonlighted on jazz sessions its believed that elements of these sessions led to the richness of the Motown sound here's evidence of one such session Fred Jackson's 1962 Hootin' and Tootin' for Blue Note spot the well known organ player.
  23. Nancy Wilson End of Our love immediately springs to mind only coz shes such a great jazz vocalist anyway, always thought Rita DaCosta leaned a little towards the jazz side of things too. As for flutes they do crop up quite often although oft hidden within the orchestrations Darrow Fletchers What Have I got Now features flutes , creating a quite haunting sound.
  24. Beware both are boots!!!!
