  1. I think this is an important point. I really don't think these sounds will take over from what we all know and love. People don't mind the odd tune but a whole night of it? Like you say there is a scene for that already. Like I said on a recent thread - if these tunes are going to be the scene of the future then I for one won't be on it. Hopefully there will always be a venue for the likes of me and you

  4. Hi Brad Looks like at top weekend! Will you be going anywhere else while you are over here?

There are plenty of soul nights out there for people who can't go all night If I did go somewhere that offered a refund and I left before the cut off time I would not even consider asking for money back. Would you go to the cinema and ask for money back if half way through you found a film wasn't to your liking?
  6. Talk about getting your hopes up then dropping you from a great hight
  7. Not me I have never bought a record I don't love.
  8. Ok. I honestly thought everybody bought records simply because they loved them. But I know people who have bought big ticket tunes just for DJing - something I can't understand.
  9. Hi Kitch. I didn't think for one minute you were criticising George. I wasn't either. He is so passionate about his music which is what it is all about surely. The majority may not to be to my taste but that is not to say I do not listen or appreciate what he loves about them. By the same token, other people love what he is playing. Like I said, I am but one person in a hall full of people and if the dance floor is full of happy dancing people that is job done in my book! As for your comment about buying big tunes as an ego thing? I have never and would never say Butch and Andy are guilty of that. Jeez, have you banged your head or summat
  10. There are a lot of DJs out there who are playing 'funky' type tunes at the moment. (I use the term funky just because I have no other). These sounds are usually not to my taste but I consider myself to be pretty tolerant so no real biggie. I am after all but one person on a fairly large scene and if it appeals to people and gets them up then job done. That said, if these kind of tunes are destined to become the future of the scene then I am afraid I won't be on it. And before anyone says I am narrow minded and not open to hearing new stuff - can I just say that is not the case. I always listen to what is being played and if something new came along that moved me the same way as Eddie Parker et al did then I would go for it 100%. Life is too short not to! But that day is yet to come... Thankfully there will always be a venue out there for my type of dinosaur As for breaking new discoveries? You can bet there are DJ's out there playing what is a 'new discovery' to someone every single weekend. No one knows everything and we don't all hear records at the same time. A perfect example of this is the recent Precisions on Hen-Mar thread. Butch has been playing this covered up as the Four Perfections and many on here consider it to be a relatively new discovery and yet Simon T and others have known it for 25 years. Until every person on the scene has heard and knows absolutely every record that has been played can there really ever be a 'true' new discovery?

Would be an idea to send the list out to record dealers too. The more pro-active you are the harder it will be for him to off load the records.

I bet he does have some idea. If he seemed interested in soul (which it would appear from your posts he was) and you were telling him about it I would guess price would have been mentioned somewhere along the line without you even realising it. I would have had a list posted on here by now if they had been my records that had been taken.

What an awful thing to happen. Might be an idea to post up a list of what has gone missing just in case people get offered them.
  14. I am surprised no one has mentioned promoters that have more than one venue on the go (or if they have I have missed it). I am talking multi amounts of venues here. That plays a huge part in there being too many things on. Plus the 100 club and Lifeline have been on the same night before. Not that I am saying anything other than there would have been people that would have gone to both that obviously couldn't because they were on the same night.
  15. I have just had a lovely email from James Bell and he is so looking forward to gracing the stage again at Prestatyn. Can't wait
  16. I have to say that looks rather tasty
  17. When I see 'mini nighter' I think a 4am finish. Not offended by it in any way. I think it is used to let people see at a glance that it is a later finish than a soul night.
  18. Not really Mark. A playlist is what, 20 odd records? Plus a sales list is exactly that. They could turn up to rob the place only to find they have all been sold
  19. Of course there is always a risk. It is a bit different when there is a complete inventory for all to see. .
  20. For which one? Or is that for £450 for each?
  21. There would have to be a DJ spot in it for you though
