If you had £150
Isn't that what the man said ?, or have the OVO police now specified that only £100 plus records are truly OVO.

Dont know whether
Its NOT compulsory to hit the floor, especially on your first few nights, nobody notices if you do or don't dance. So go to a night, watch what goes on, practice at home if possible, and hit the floor when you feel ready. As has been said lessons will be a waste of time and money, dancing to soul music is a very individual thing, nobody does it the same way, it's NOT like line dancing.

First all nighter record that you remember most
Obviously unknown at the time.

First all nighter record that you remember most
As I said, it was and still is, a bloody rare item, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't get played out because of this, DJ's just didn't have it.. There's only one original on popsike for a start.

First all nighter record that you remember most
Pretty sure this was a 74/75, maybe a bit earlier, Mecca play from our old friend Ian Levine. One things for sure it was bloody hard to get yer mitts on back then. It might have been Colin but I think he was too busy inventing what is now called the modern/crossover scene at the time, so it might have been a bit too "northern" for him.

First all nighter record that you remember most
This conversation just about sums up the difference between those that were "there" and those that just thought they were. No offense to either party as they were both "there" those that weren't won't get it.

First all nighter record that you remember most
Quite a few, including that one, from the same venue, but the first one I forked for was Ad Libs Nothings Worse Than Being Alone mid/late 1971 methinks.

Women were a NS minority question?
In my regularl all nighter days 71/75, I would say there were about 3 to 1 (75%/25%) lads v lasses attending nighters. Probably due to lasses not being able to get permission to stay out all night and/or not daring to cross their parents. Which is probably why the dance floors look so male dominated. I don't think it's anymore complicated than that. Local nights (Sunday, midweek), were much more balanced in terms of gender.

Why did it cease to be underground?
At least we won't starve to death.

Why did it cease to be underground?
Approx 1975/6 when wigan opened to the masses and the underground rest of us went to Cleethorpes pier to listen to danceable soul with a blind eye to the year of issue and silly dj prejudices.

BBC 4 Roots, Reggae, Rebellion - A New Documentary
Taped this and just watched it now, that was worse than some of the northern soul "documentaries", the lowlight for me was some white ginger haired bird, completely fucking up, explaining what the Rasta phrase "I & I" meant. Piss poor IMHO.

Bootleggers. How low will they go ?!?
If copyright didn't exist and people could bootleg things willy nilly, meaning writers, artists, musicians, producers etc. didn't get any money, how much soul music do you think would get produced ?. It's not about how people build their collection.

Bootleggers. How low will they go ?!?
Since the two lads originally responsible for Grapevine, are still knocking about close to/on the scene, maybe something will be done about this particular example.
