  4. Hear, Hear Arthur Dave
  5. Legend? It's a damm good job he had a real legend (John Anderson) discovering and feeding him those records, because without John I somehow don't think the Searling eulogy would be so strong. Dave
  6. No Beirut
  7. The excellent deep soul flip "Get Away From Here" never seems to get a mention ! I bet the stage show when they performed "Up And Down The Hill" was a sight to behold, just love them horns ! Dave
  8. Also the funk influence that is currently engulfing the scene, now Pete's thought's on Tommy Dent would have made some most interesting reading You could just imagine Pete on the rampage with all the brick-a-brac sellers in the record bars of today's scene, it would be even more entertaining than the night he punched Paul Franklin on the end of the nose at tht 100 club I wonder if badass Ady C would have revoked his lifetime ban with the passing of time Dave
  9. Wasn't Ady Pountain one of the earliest exponets of this tune Perhaps he could be persuaded to leave his potting shed at the bottom of his garden long enough to give us the low down. Dave
  10. Best of luck Derek if Deb takes over the mic you might as well bugger off home and watch the X factor ! Go Big Red Go !!! Dave

  14. Steady on a minute here Guys This may be a perfectly legal re-issue rather than a bootleg, if Eugene owns the masters etc (which I believe he does) he's well within his rights to re-issue his own material. What has probably happened here is that some numpty has contacted him on facebook etc and told him how wonderful he is and his record is a massive tune on the pissy arsed northern/modern scene and is worth loads of money. He then due to his total lack of knowledge and understanding of the size and nature of these scenes thinks he's got a top 10 hit in Europe. Also due to his lack of understanding about the value of a original release and a re-issue he also thinks that if he re-issues it he's gonna make the same money as a copy he's seen go though E-bay. An all too familiar story i'm afraid. Dave
  15. Well if their serious about "Wigan Casino" the movie they best get their skates on while some of the leading protagonists of the time are still alive and kicking, just think how much money in equity card fees they can save by getting them to play their own fathers! Dave
  16. Many thanks to all the Dj's Neil & Nicki, Mark Merry, Dave Thorley, Harry G, Steve G, Mick O'Donnell and their respective radio stations, plus all the other radio presenters I haven't name dropped for championing this release just proves southern soul isn't as out of vogue has some notable people think Even 'the Gouch' prized his wallet open and let a tenner fly with gay abandon yep! We'll it's available with all the usual stockists or direct from the Soul Junction website: www.souljunctionrecords.co.uk as from Monday 27th October, so go and make Preston a very happy man. 22. Both Clifford Binns "You Got To Help Me/Take It From Me" Carrie (6501) and Edward Hamilton's "I'm Gonna Love You/Call Me" were both recorded at United Sound as the fledgling Labeat Studios were a very basic affair at that time. Melvin Davis used to pick up both Binns, Hamilton and the Arabians and take them to the Labat studio to rehearse in the evenings only. Davis was moonlighting at Labeat, as he was signed as a producer to D-Town at the time. As were Motown musicians Cornelius Grant (Lead Guitar)and Drummer Pistol Allen. The other musicians on the sessions being George White (Trombone), Tony Newton (Bass Guitar) , Melvin filled in as both pianist and arranger. Clifford Binns is remembered as a very polite, softly spoken man who needed very little rehersal. Therefore Binns and Hamilton are both seperate people. With Binns also recording the James Hendrix penned "It Was Only Yesterday/Again It's Christmas" on Ronnie Moore's Theoda label, a record I bought blind for a couple of quid out of Soulbowl's Detroit Catalogue but quickly sold as it was way too early for me and not a patch on his Carrie release. Both Al Williams "I Am Nothing" and James Shorter's "Modern Day Woman" were pressed at RCA the probable reason for these being the only two Labeat releases to appear on white demo's. Hendrix's initial version of Carrie records was financed by the owner of a local haberdashery store( who's name without checking currently escapes me) on the same street as were he lived. The owner was persuaded to back Hendrix by a young local promtion guy by the name of Clyde Brooks. Hendricks later showed his gratitude by recording "Soul Set" on Clyde (Carrie 008). Clyde later moved on to bigger and better things in New York. All this information was relayed to me by the following leading protagonists from back in the day,Melvin Davis, Edward Hamilton, Cornelius Grant and Clyde Brooks.I do wish some of these so called researchers would dig a bit deeper rather than just goole it ! All this with out my first cup of coffee of the day bah! Dave
  23. Don't forget that bloody Pork Pie Hat as well Davy Boy !
