  1. £50 and you have to feel sorry for me because I've just come out of hospital
  2. These are the most up to date allnighter dates for 2015 and now 2016. If you want your event included, PM me, and I'll do it within 24 hours (Usually ). It's really up to YOU as a promoter, if you don't give me dates, they won't get included. Please note - this is an ALLNIGHTER planner, so only send details of proper allnighters, and weekenders, not long Soul nights. Any problems, ask somebody else....or a PM to me. 3. No problem at all there Kirsty. It's true. When I started DJing I took spots anywhere in the country, did warm up spots at allnighters (I did the very first spot at the very first Winsford niter for example), and never turned a booking down unless I was already booked. I was significantly helped by the fact that I was one of the regular guests at Albrighton Lea Manor, which in it's prime was probably the best Soul night in the country. But because people travelled to attend Albrighton, people from other parts of the country heard me DJ, and when they booked me, people from their area, and people who had travelled to their venue also heard me, and I got more bookings from that. Thing is, I still never turn a booking down unless I'm already booked and will still do spots anywhere in the country, simply because I enjoy DJing so much. Of course there is one other thing involved, and although it sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet here, I can't say it any other way. You actually have to be a good DJ, and remember, you have been hired to do a job, like anything else, if you do it well, you will be hired again.
  4. Holland Dozier Holland They, along with Smokey Robinson, changed the American popular music scene.
  5. That's just typical of you isn't it. Somebody gives you £500....and you spend it on CHEAP whores

No need to Chalky. My views are well known. I'm not particularly bothered these days at Soul nights, but it's originals only for all nighters. Simple way to avoid playing bootlegs is don't put any in the play box I'm happy with my own view on this, and if other people are happy with their view, let them get on with it. The only thing I'd add is that promoters should make a decision and stick to it, about booking DJs who play boots, irregardless of whether it means they won't get bookings on a return basis.
  7. Eldo 111 - Lost Love / Hallelujah - 1960 Not aware of the Brooke label or a recording by The Blue Notes on it.
  8. Yes, because 'My Turn' is the flip to 'I Need A Helping Hand'

Only if she was topless and I thought you're bigger tits comment was funny
  10. Kylie, (Rugbysoulgirl) is looking for a copy
  11. Really ? Or is this a spelling mistake on your part ?
  12. Two DJ versions as well. One with vocal and instrumental, and the other has vocal both sides. and I can't remember the last time I saw one for sale with regards to the price, so I'd say £150 is probably right these days
  13. Didn't know it had been booted
  14. I only know of two live albums (Three issues) by Major Lance. Major Lance Live At The Torch (First issue with colour sleeve) Major Lance Live at The Torch (Second issue with black and white sleeve) Major Lance live at Hinckley
  15. Funnily enough I'm in contact with the wife of one of the members of Dickie & The Ebb Tides. She was asking if it was possible to get hold of any of his records because he hasn't got anything left. So if anyone can PM some MP3s of Dickie & The Ebb Tides recordings I'll pass them on. Cheers
  16. I don't think anyone would doubt that Richard Searling will top this poll. He's been there, done that, worn the T-Shirt for over 40 years now. In terms of my favourite DJs these days, and I don't want to include anyone from the past because the Northern Scene is NOW, it's not just nostalgia, these are the guys who I would travel to hear, and very rarely remember them doing a spot I didn't enjoy. Keith Money Chris Anderton Roger Banks John Weston Ady Croasdell and there's one guy who's spot I never miss Dave Rimmer

Whenever I'm DJing I always try to get there for the start of the night so I don't repeat anything that has been played, although it has happened on occasions. If you are being paid to DJ, you have to accept some responsibility in earning that wage. Simple as that. Joan of course has hit the nail on the head with the two room scenario, it's impossible to be in two places at once, so really I'd spend most of the night in the main room, and trust to luck in the second room. theoretically, because you would play a different set in the second room, it should be individual enough for tracks not to be repeated. Mind you, I've seen people follow me and start their set with a record I played less than ten minutes before, and I know they were in the venue then, so were they listening ??
  18. So it's the definitive London Club scene list. Which means it's not relevant to anyone who didn't frequent the London Club scene. And to be honest nothing would horrify me more than having to frequent the London Club scene in the Eighties
  19. That's ELEVEN years ago though ! The problem with lists like this is it is aimed at a younger generation. I've been buying and listening to Black music for nigh on forty years now, as have the majority of the members of this forum, but I've never heard of at least a quarter of the DJs they name. Does that make it a good list ? In my eyes no, but in the eyes of someone aged twenty it's probably great. You have to question whether experience and knowledge should overcome youthful enthusiasm to make this a definitive list though.
  20. Err, these aren't Kent releases are they?? They are all on the main imprint, Ace. I know Kent is part of the Ace company, but you'd have thought if you were going to write a critical review you would at least be able to talk about the correct label that the CDs you are reviewing were on
  21. Mike You should at least give us all a chance to read the post before you delete it
  22. It looks like we've all still got it ! I know I have.
  23. Black Wings deffo
  24. Well Albert, hopefully that's enough information for you

Because it made good financial sense for Berry Gordy. If he already had a backing track recorded, he didn't have to pay any musicians again to record it on a different artist.
