Happy 70Th Gladys Knight
Belated happy birthday Gladys. Thanks for the great music over the years. I still remember seeing you and the Pips on a Sunday afternoon at the Saville Theatre in London, when you were second on the bill to Joe Tex. He never turned up, many decided to go home, but the rest of us were invited to move to the front seats. Brilliant show, you sang your older songs, Letter Full Of Tears, Every Beat Of My Heart, Giving Up, etc plus Just Walk In My Shoes and your then new record Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me. Happy days.

Soul In The Sun 2014
Eddy's Soul In The Sun was the original one as far as I know, been going for over ten years. I've been to it several times, a good holiday, met loads of good people. There are several others run by soul fans who usually arrange to meet up and take over a bar for a week or a fortnight and they are the ones I go to now. They are often by invitation only. Goldsoul started their holidays a few years ago, that's the free market for you. I've never been to them so don't know what they are like.

Sales Lists And The Mis-Leading Descriptions And Fonk
It's not a bad record of its type but wouldn't want to hear it when I went out to a soul night. Admittedly I'm not a big fan of instrumentals. You are right that DJs are desperate to find "new" records to play, and there are loads of funk ones. However if they are to be played at a soul night (rare, Northern or whatever you like to call it) they should be danceable in our style.

Oh Dear... Northern Dance Lessons On Radio 2
Speaking of one legged dancers, back in 1965 when Sam The Sham's Woolly Bully was being played in the clubs I frequented there was a special dance to it. Can't remember much about it but it did involve standing, think you had your arms sticking out and holding your hips, kicking your right leg out, as if you were kicking someone up the backside. There must have been more to it but I can't remember. But it was featured on Ready Steady Go, so might be on one of the videos that I recorded when they were shown again was it the 80s or 90s, courtesy of Dave Clark who owned them. However not one for the one legged Northern Soul dancers now. What with all the publicity about our music and scene at the moment, much of which makes it a joke, I now say I like rare soul music, usually stops the conversation immediately.

Was This Record Ever Played At A Northern Venue?
It was a bubblegum record from the late 60s, remember it at the time. Absolute rubbish imo, similar to the ghastly Simon Says. If this was played at a night purported to be a soul night I'm shocked. Was it the Wigan Casino pop era? I never went there so hard to judge but am amazed that things like Nine Times Out Of Ten were played. Did it sound good when everyone was "stimulated"? I was going to say thank goodness things are better now but a friend visited a certain club in the south east of England and he told me they played Joe 90.

The Lost Legacy Of Little Miss Cornshucks
I've just listened to this on YouTube, excellent. There are quite a few of her records on YouTube ,her versions of standards are pretty good imo. I suspect she influenced Esther Phillips as i think the latter started recording later.

Majestic Soul - May Issue - My Tunes
Nice selection Rob. Thanks for posting your playlist, enables me to listen again, not always easy to take things in when talking and drinking. Well done to the Majestic guys for getting guests who play interesting and lesser known tunes. Listening as I type this to Darling Dear by the Jackson 5, normally wouldn't have bothered but as said by others a really nice tune.

100 Club Playlist Sat 3Rd May
Thanks for posting your playlist Warren, nice selection. I liked the Los Sonidos de FM record, a nice take on Wade In The Water, one Latin record I really enjoyed. If I remember correctly you played it off a 45, is it expensive? Good to have a chat with you sitting on the edge of the stage (as usual).

The Best Unreleased Soul?
On the rare occasions I hear either side of it I just have to get up and dance, whatever I'm doing. I do hope that Butch will play this and Jean Carter at the Lifeline anniversary on Saturday. A real tragedy that these will never be available on legal issue because the only word I've got to describe them is magnificent.
