I'm a bit confused. Is this Jimmy Jones the same guy as the one who recorded Handy Man and Good Timin'?
  3. Thanks to everyone who answered my query. Got a copy at a very reasonable prive from a friend to whom I'm most grateful as I want it for a birthday present for someone.

She appeared at the Saville Theatre in London in the series of Sunday evening concerts put on by Brian Epstein who had leased the theatre in 1965, initially to put on plays. I was a regular visitor to the Sunday concerts and remember Felice. If my memory is correct she sang three songs, think they included I Feel Love Coming On, It May Be Winter Outside and I'm Under The Influence Of Love, but I may be wrong, don't hold me to it. It must have been in 1967. At the time I thought she was okay but to me heavily influenced by Diana Ross. Just my opinion of course.
  5. Some interesting comments here. My copy has There You Are on the flipside, I'd forgotten how good it is. In my opinion she was at her best on slower songs. I saw her at the Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road back in the day with my wife. She talked a lot about a certain sexual practice but perhaps this isn't the thread for that, lol. Recently bought her version of This Is It on a 45, fine record imo. I think my copy of AHFS is an original issue as it's got the A on the House For Sale side, according the John Manship British issue book the repress has it on both sides. But as it's a present it wouldn't matter that much I guess. Actually she'd probably know but hopefully wouldn't hold it against me. SoundsOKEH mentioned clubs in the Manchester area where you'd hear it. Was at Walkden with my friend recently, didn't hear it on my visit but it was a memorable trip for several reasons, don't think I'll dance there again, lol.

At Soul Giant in no particular order: Kae Williams - Our love is dying Carol & Gerri- How can i ever find a way / On you heartache looks good Jimmy Soul Clark - I'll be your champion Al McArthur - His true love for you Spandells - Say no girl But so many other great tunes were played, thanks to all the DJs.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I want a copy for a good friend, so will have to keep looking. I am puzzled about these stupid prices. I could undertand if a record is getting plays in a lot of clubs but haven't heard this out for ages.
  8. Bearing in mind that prices generally seem to have gone mad can anyone tell me what is a reasonable price for an original Spring issue of A House For Sale by Millie Jackson please?

He certainly had a good innings, 89 years old. One of the most successful rhythm and blues artistes and a pioneer of rock'n'roll. First hit in 1949/50 with The Fat Man followed by loads of others, many now standards in both R&B and R&R. I remember hearing and liking his records when I was at school: I'm Ready, Be My Guest, I Want To Walk You Home, Walking To New Orleans and these are the first to spring to mind. RIP Fats, thanks for the music. :

Got the awful news on Wednesday from John Baxter, couldn't believe it, I'd only been speaking to Jim the previous week. He'd said he had heart trouble, but I didn't expect this. He had excellent musical taste, I bought quite a few records from him, but most important he was a really good decent guy. My condolences to Liz and the family. RIP Jim.
  14. My all time favourite style in soul music. Love to hear these tunes out, especially as enders at a nighter. But they can be pretty upsetting after a love affair ends.
  15. Hi Chris, You'll have to ,bear with me on that, will listen again tomorrow and try to note the tracks I'm aware of and the times of the others. Cheers, Geoff
  16. Very nice. A playlist would be nice as there's quite a few I don't know.
  17. Thanks Andy, quite tempted to have it cut to a 45.
  18. Is Up & Outta Here by R Kelly available on a 45 rpm single? Great record, modern soul but with a slightly older feel imo.
  19. I trust this is the right forum to ask this but could someone please give me the date of the next Bury allnighter?

Thanks Robb, I've listened to the Hector Rivera tracks but can't tell who is singing. As RP has passed away it's something that may never be solved.

Went to Soul Giant in Haggerston yesterday, a very enjoyable alldayer, although I did leave early due to stuff to do at home. A good mix of styles with these five as my picks. Janice Christian - Just A Bad Thing Chuck Ray - I Don't Mind Cynthia & The Imaginary Three - That's What I Am Betty Moerer - Speed Up LaShawn Collins - What You Gonna Do With My Love

Thanks for replying Andy. I got my information from Marv Goldberg's site, he lists three Hector Rivera tracks as having RP on them: BARRY (as vocalist with the Hector Rivera Orchestra)1011 At The Party/Do It To Me - 66 1012 Playing It Cool/I Got My Eye On You - 671020 I Want A Chance For Romance/Hueso (We So) - 67 (It's possible that "Hueso" is an instrumental) I've had a search and found a thread on SS in 2005 about Latin Soul and it seems that it may be David Coleman on some of these. All rather nice whoever is singing. I used to enjoy your sets at Scenesville. Hope you are well.
  25. Thanks for compiling this and posting it on Mixcloud. Absolutely superb, this is my favourite style of soul music, just really gets to you.
