  1. A terrible vocal performance with equally bad backing singers, made worse by the fact that the other versions are all so good.
  2. That Caprells is a great record, both sides. I agree with you about the Wanda Davis version of Save Me.
  3. I'm at GoGo Bar every Thursday night from 8pm and Sunday's it's either Eric (that is you isn't it Daniel) or myself from 6pm
  4. Steve, our night starts next month and the November one will be Friday 21st 8-1am. Its a slow dance party though, no northern. 100% sweet soul, beat ballads, deep with a beat, mid tempo crossover and rocksteady. All in a tiny red lit room.... can't wait!
  5. You couldn't really get two more different records could you. When I got my copy I did a bit of sleuthing and found there are a bunch of them state side. It's rare for sure but copies are hiden in collections. It's the kind of record you don't want to move on.
  6. Tommy I can scan you the covers, I have all but two of them. I only have 1 of Soul and it's missing it's cover, it's a magazine format so perhaps a different mag to the one Dave mentioned.
  7. Soul Ilustrated was around 68-73 It covered music, film and social issues. There is another one just called Soul.
  8. I've actually started to issue packing instructions when it's a random ebay or discogs sellers.
  9. Great record and a great price, my pleasure
  10. Jon, is that the rare mislabeled version of World Of Ecstasy?
  11. utterly heartbreaking.
  12. I don't post on here much but I do read threads, Bob was always insightful, occasionally indignant but mostly a veritable file-o-fax of information on this forum. He must have spent an awful lot of time at his computer because it's obvious from reading these posts that he was having many private conversations with a lot of us. He's left a great legacy of knowledge behind but more over he was a funny guy with a giant thirst for music and the stories of those that made it. I identify with what Kris has to say about how he viewed the world of soul regarding the English scene and then the rest of us, it wasn't mean spirited, just keenly observed. His absence on soul source will be missed for a long time to come. I'll miss our emails that always started with records and end with random conversations about life and living it.
  13. PM'd you. I'll take Jimmy Braswell thanks!
  14. Hi Dave, does Lady & The Gents - Died inside have I can feel the tears on the flip?
  15. Craig picked the Nolan Porter's up in Canberra the 2nd year they did a fair selling off all non Australian artists from the National archives. There was multiples of loads of great stuff.
  16. So John, when are we getting a set like this in Aust?
  17. I think that went for a really good price for such a rare item. Do you have anymore info on them? It's a great record that's for sure.
  18. I've never bought a cracked record but I've cracked a few over the years and whilst they lose their value as long as I can play them it's fine.
  19. Chorleybloke might be able to shed some light on this. I don't know the authors, or if they are on the scene here I don't remember their names
  20. Jocko I agree in part with what you are saying in regards to dj's always shifting things on to make room for new sounds but my comment was said in the context of a previous post I made about a new breed of younger collectors who want to get out and dj, they aren't going to get noticed with a box full of fantastic but cheap records they have to have big ticket items and starting late in the game when records fetch such crazy prices they have no choice but to hot box. The scene needs younger dj's to keep it going into the next decade and beyond. A lot of people don't value a tune until it's played by a "big" dj. A decade ago I posted sound clips of Carmelita up on here or RSF and no one cared less, it went ignored by all but 2 people however when John Manship got a copy from the same guy and sold it to Soul Sam THEN it was suddenly a great record that people wanted.
  21. The scene itself created "hot boxing" with it's demand to hear rare or new big sounds. Younger collectors in their 20's who want to DJ and get a name have to hot box, they aren't old enough to have amassed a collection that has become indemand or 45's that have become scarce and with the prices going up they have to sell on to get the current big spins.
  22. Someone who has an expensive collection that can fit into a 200 count box
  23. Bob has hit the nail on the head regards postage. When I buy cheaper records I'm more likely to buy off someone like Moerer, I may pay a bit extra but I can get a half dozen 45's and the postage cost is better. I don't want to buy a £10 record and pay £10 postage. It's also that "old fashioned" collecting has given way to collectors starting with high end items rather than working towards rarer stuff and of cause hot box DJ's
  24. I have nothing worth while to contribute to this thread other than that I can't stand coloured vinyl. I only have one in my collection.
