Columbia, Epic, Okeh, Etc
From my experience all the labels that you have mentioned pressed originals in Styrene in the sixties. They re-issued on vinyl later. ie. Freddie Scott - Mr Heartache. Original on Styrene later released on vinyl. The one on the left of your examples looks like a second isssue to me, unless it was pressed in Canada, because they did not use styrene for Columbia records in Canada. At least I think so???? No doubt somebody will put me right. But on the labels you have mentioned I would not touch it unless it was Styrene. I am gonna check my boxes now. Could be the use of different pressing plants though. Dunc

Wigan Casino 5th Annversary Contined
I think Geri Thomas 'Look what I got' was first played at the Cleethorpes nighters by John Manship as are alot of the later sounds that were credited to The Casino. Lou Pride (i'm comin home) was being played by John Vincent at Cleethorpes and then he started playin it at Wigan Later. If you didn't do Cleethorpes you missed some serious stuff that was being played at the same time that crossed over to the Casino. Dunc (more useless information)

Don't Know It =don't Like It ?
I have only been back on the scene for a few years but believe me the scene has changed for me in the kent area big time, i first started listening to all of my old stuff that i new oh so well, i then started to go to a few doo`s in london and hit the northern rooms on scooter rally weekends etc etc, and can i honestly say that just about everything i was hearing was nearly all new to me as the music had kept being discovered and played and if anything a lot more soulful than what i was used too imo, without the chance of hearing new stuff you might not know what great tunes you may be missing out on, i now have bought sh*t loads more new tunes and just cant stop buying week in week out, but at the same time i dont like all ive heard but that is only a matter of taste, to me if its old, new, rare, fast, slow, i dont care as my taste is probably different to the majority and i know what i like but i would never knock a dj. if you do your homework and get to know what dj plays what you can then decide what venue would suit your taste better, simple as that to me if your a choosy bugger. DONT KNOCK IT ENJOY IT BEARSY. WELL SAID BEARSY!!! I chose to go to the 100 Club in London rather than Stafford in the 80s. The London sounds were more sixties sounding and alot were new to me then. I had a great time and enjoyed the ear candy. More people should listen and enjoy, as an earlier post says ALL THE SOUNDS WERE NEW ONCE. Dunc

Records With Inherent Sound Faults
Went to Manchester a few years ago and Les Hare had a mint copy of Like One for sale. Had a listen on his ear phones and it played clear. Earphones would pick up any distortion more and it was a demo. Only £100, wish I had bought it now Dunc

Friendly People
Nothing but the blues was a dancefloor filler at the Morecambe allnighters in the early eighties. If it filled the floor then it should be doing it now. Keep playing it as there is growing interest on this 45 on this site. If you ever see one they look like boots. The You send me track has a Frankford Wayne matrix. The Blues track has no markings and in lots of cases the labels are off centre. Someone must have been running out of dosh. (more useless info from Dunc)

Do Djs Really Really Know
The Casino WAS A BIG ARENA and they played NEW STUFFevery week. I think people in general are looking for a good night out and I agree with you about that and they like their oldies. That's the problem. I would like to know what the cure is as there are thousands of quality records out there and still affordable that sound good and are right for today's market, but people are not interested and still want to listen to the same sounds. Look's like I'm going to The Kestrel Suite.

Do Djs Really Really Know
I think that what everyone is missing here is that thirty three years ago Wigan opened and we were listening to new sounds every week and did not complain. DJs nowadays tend to play their rare stuff or popular stuff depending on the croud or what they advertise. There are thousands of quality records out there and it's good to hear them, even after all these years. I think DJ's should play lesser knowns more to create interest again as that is how it started in the first place. Here's a low priced tune that's worth a punt: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/sounds/exists...I_M_CRACKING_UP

Scratched Vinyl
If the scratches cause clicks get some snooker board felt from a local supplier and some wd40 from a garage. Gently rub the scratch with the cloth and wd40 and then clean with furniture polish and play a few times until the dirt is removed from the grooves. Finish off with proper vinyl cleaner and HEY PRESTO. You can use WD40 on either plastic or Styrene to good results. Works everytime Dunc ( a mind of useless information)
