Old Reggae Want's List, Imposible To Do In 2013
HI ALL ....I REMEMBER JOE & LEGS,FROM THE FEW TIMES I WENT TO THE DOT, & IN THE STUDENT PRINCE IN 69. THATS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS THREAD, SO BACK ON TRACK, SKINHEAD GIRL, First I made a big mistake about having it on a blank, it never come out that way, I was thinking of the 8ts blank of SKINHEAD TRAIN C/W SKINHEAD A BASH EM CLAUDETTE, THIS BLANK WAS REDONE ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO, and it caught a few people out I saw 1 copy sell for £85 and many over £40 it's real value is £1. SKINHEAD GIRL by SYMARIP was on their SKINHEAD MOONSTOMP LP, however it did come out on a 45 7" as it was on a TROJAN EP, SKINHEAD MOONSTOMP 3rd release has that awful pic cover of boots walking on the moon, that alone makes me vomit, no Skinhead had their LEVIS rolled up, dress up like that if you are a racist or gay but please don't think it's in the spirit of 69, the EP is not to be confused with TRO 9062 which has SKINHEAD JAMBOREE as the B side, it's the 3rd reissue that has the boot sleeve in green not the blue that is common, I will give more info on this when I can state it as a fact, even though I am not wrong, it's is also on a 12" TROJAN LABEL early 8ts. clear as mud I can't find my Trojan listings book, it also may be in the YOUNG GIFTED & BLACK book that's worth a nose DAVE K

A Bout Time They Let This Go
HI ALL I must agree with the above TONY JEBB was & the best, however integral for a MECCA revival, where will you get people to give the authentic atmosphere that the Highland had, it's also having a Keele all-nighter without me selling records and Mick Smith not doing his set, I would guess it would be dull & dim &. the dance floor covered in Vim DAVE K PS:- YES YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT TONY, VERY SAD, THERE WAS TALK LAST YEAR OF A SPECIAL EVENT FOR HIM IN BLACKPOOL?

Your Favourite Live Performance - Just Let Your Emotions Go
:hatsoff2:HI ALL,,,i Have been very lucky to see as many live acts that I have, and some acts I worked with as a roadie in both sound, lites & FX, Alexis Kornor Mike Pato Boxer(Timebox) Labi Sifri, Jimmy Helmes, jr Walker & All Stars, Detroit Spinners Marvin Gaye & many more, were a privalige to work with, However my top pick would be the following JAMES BROWN 1971 RAINBOW LONDON The whole show was spectacular in every which way and the crowning of JB as the KING OF SOUL, WAS PURE MAGIC, Next up is joint #1 the MIGHTY DELLS, TRENTHAM GARDENS, STOKE, AS A PUNTER THIS SHOW WAS THE MOST PERFECT EXAMPE OF SOUL, watched by hundreds of open mouthed Soulsters, & as a member of the road crew the 1976 UK tour of KOOL AND THE GANG, words can't express the personal high I got every day for 2 months, superb, Oh I should mention GINO WASHINGTON & THE RAM JAM BAND, BOWES LION STEVENAGE NEW TOWN 1967, DAVE K

Warp Removal Service
HI ALL A year ago, I thought I had sussed out a cheap way to solve most edge warps that cause much annoyance when we try to play a record, with the use of a hand held steamer that I got from Lidles for £25, initial successes made me believe I had cracked this problem, however it is more like hit & miss 50 - 50 as I did not take in account the different plastics that are used, I would not dismiss the concept, but needs more research to make it reliable, TRY IT WITH CARE DAVE K

Old Reggae Want's List, Imposible To Do In 2013
HI ALL I THINK SKINHEAD GIRL COME OUT IN LATE 71, IT LIKE MANY OF THE SKINHEAD TITLES COME OUT AFTER THE SKINHEAD CULT & FASHION HAD ENDED, EVEN THOUGH THE CLOTHS THAT MADE US LOOK SMART ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, WERE NOW USED AS WORK CLOTHS, MOST OF THE OLDER SKINHEADS ADOPTED THE SMOOTH LOOK AND REPLACED REGGAE WITH SOUL MUSIC, IN THE SOUTH FUNK WAS IN & THE NORTH WAS INTO RARE SOUL OF THE TYPE PLAYED AT THE TWISTED WHEEL, THE WORD NORTHERN SOUL WAS NOT USED TO DESCRIBE THE SCENE UNTIL 1972, ALTHOUGH THE WORDS HAD BEEN USED BY DAVE GODIN. MOST OF THE SKINHEAD TITLES WERE NOT KNOWN, IT WAS NOT UNTIL SOME OF THE YOUNGER KIDS WHO KEPT LISTENING TO REGGAE IN THE MID 7ts DISCOVERD THEM, AND THE MOD REVIVAL IN THE LATE 7ts WANTED THEM THAT A DEMAND TO OWN THEM COME ABOUT, IN THE SKINHEAD PERIOD THE ONLY TITLES I HAD WAS SKINHEAD MOON STOMP, SKINHEAD TRAIN & SKINHEAD A MESSAGE TO YOU, THE LATTER ONE BY DESMOND RILEY I THINK I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN HARTFORDSHIRE TO OWN A COPY, OFF SUBJECT A BIT, MONKEY GIRL MAYTELLS WAS A HAD ONE TO FIND, BACK IN THE DAY, DAVE K

New 100 Club Anniversary Singles
HI ALL....DAVE, DAVE I think you to quick in your assumption, and at no time did I mention anyone name, also it's a free country, you can do what you want with your record my son, not sure how you got the extra one? As for getting Ady a pint on the night is great, but when I said get him a pint it was a metaphoric statement, what is a fact I don't go to the 100 CLUB anymore, if someone wants to put me on the guest list I promise I will be there, my records have come from Mick & Ady who I have known for many years I give a donation to the "I will get the next pint in society of London & the home counties" as a old school skinflint, I could always lift a copy from a new kid on the block, give me lift mate next year if you like DAVE K PS:- I GET YOUR PIONT,

Memorabilia For Sale On Ebay
HI ALL......ARE YOU A COLLECTORE OF SOUL MEMORABILIA? Over the years I have owned a PC I have spent 95% of that time on the Inter Net searching for rare soul memorabilia, artefacts, music sheets & other collectable's such as club badges, mostly on eBay, However the good old days are now long gone, you can look through 6 pages & not find anything of real value, even worse is the endless Northern Soul fake badges mugs cups & photo copies of pages from BLUES & SOUL magazine, & adverts from US Trade Mags, It is the trade mags adverts that get me going, are the people selling any thing worth having? & where are they getting there scans from, (nicking them of sites like SOULSOURCE). Following a recent thread asked us to send/post Soul Venue Posters, really a good idea, and I find it interesting, so much so I was going to contribute some of my own rare stuff, I have some rare adverts from the states mainly from US trade magazines, but I have decided not to as I believe they will be copied and sold on eBay, what do you think, I wlll post one free of charge just to devalue a copy I saw on "buy it now" for £4.99 DAVE K

New 100 Club Anniversary Singles
HI ALL....Yes it is topical and also typical of todays SOUL SCENE, I was shocked last week, when I saw an advert asking £200 for the 100 CLUBS #14 International TKO's, great 45, I wonder how much that was selling for the next day. more to the point why sell the record, I think all the 100 CLUB 45s look better when they are all together on the shelf many times I have spent a hour playing them all, also ass ADY gives these 45s away free, how many people who sell them on buy the man a drink and say thank you? DAVE K

Bl**dy Ebay Bl**dy Ebay Bl**oody Ebay
You can't edit it, he can't edit it, they can't edit it. It's not their fault, the tooth fairy says the buyer can put in what he wants , we say you can't. We're sorry sir, you'll have to do it all manually and schlep down the PO and pay regular rates , we don't recognise any tracking blahdyblahdyblah So if it happens to you, save your breath and bend over just a little further. HI ALL... SURLEY SOMEONE HAS TO ENTER THE INFO MANUALLY? SO WHY CAN'T IT BE EDITED AT THAT PIONT? DAVE K

Did All Uk Pressed 45S Have Centers?
HI ALL.... If they (bootleggers) ever got their mits on a UK stamper that pressed up records with middles and outer grips, I shudder to think, it's getting bad enough with the psych bootlegs on UK labels, DAVE K

Dowloads Pitched Up On Youtube Etc
HI ALL What makes it sound so crap & it does sound crap, is the fact that no attempt has been made to use studio equipment, as a result the swampdogs vocal has been ruined. This example has got the thumbs down on this thread, so why does Pete think it has Belgium appeal, I say leave all the tech DJing to the people who know what they are doing DAVE K

Hesitations - Push A Little Harder - This Is A Mystery To Me
Hi All....Yes Rich your record is a bit of Rare Soul History, the labels would of been removed because it was a) still available in the shops, so keeping it's ID a secret was to prevent other DJ's finding it out, b) I am 100% sure it was done in 1970 and taken to the Wheel as a new discovery, if so you have a genuine Twisted Wheel Record, c) the record is still rare & should be played hence my valuation, if only you cold trace it back to the person who removed the label, but I am certain I'm correct, also I forgot to state the centre was deliberately dinked out to make it look like a US import again this would mislead any one finding out it's true identity, When I buy rare records I take the condition as it comes, in some ways this market for mint only records is nonsense to me as your record proves that it has history, frame it get Brian Raye to autograph it as a genuine WHEEL play (tell him I said it was) and then sell it or hang it. DAVE K

British Record Prices & Their Collection?
:hatsoff2:HI ALL Collecting 6ts soul that got a UK release was an age thing at one time, but only for those who were about before the imports were allowed into the UK, back in the early days any imports that I collected come from specialist shops Moores, Redifusion, Selecta Disc & so on, many of my early collection of Northern Soul I got from Contempos in Hannaway Street, However my lust for Rare UK initially come from John Wilkinson from Nottingham, who told me that he had found a copy of "at the Discotheque" for 6d, and he would get 30 shillings for it at the Twisted Wheel. Although I was DJing Soul in 71 7 an avid Blues & Soul reader, most of my soul records come from the B&S charts. it was not till I met Mick Smith later that year, I got educated into the Smithsonian Approach of collecting Rare UK Soul, Mick had a Sage type of influence over me, and I really envied every record that he played, and I wanted to be the same, Back then a UK DEMO was Rare, and common records like Jamo Thomas "I spy for the FBI" were the holy grail as a demo. Again I still have a mind set about my collecting, in that I still refer to records as a Torch, Mecca, Cats & Wigan Play, also I still love the Northern Soul records much better than other up-tempo Disco stuff that has made it's way on the scene. To conclude you can collect US label till the cows come home & I do, but having all the top rare UK soul to play as and when I want, is Soul self satisfaction, and elite in the MOD ethic, also it is/was achievable? DAVE K

Hesitations - Push A Little Harder - This Is A Mystery To Me
HI ALL. Rich your 45, takes me back to 1970/1, I am sure that the label has been removed & centre knocked out, disfiguring 45s in such a way, was done by many white lads copying the REGGAE SOUND MAN STYLE, or as we have got to call them COVER UP, The Cover up or Secret Sound reached it's peak in 73/4 or Blackpool v Wigan battle, especially when Simon found new stuff, I have often chuckled that Secret Sound has his initial SS. When I started to collect Rare Soul there was a big North South divide in England, those who lived in the North gave little info to the south, talking in matrix # and removing the label, I am sure this is how your record got disfigured, a PROMO/DEMO would have a blank label with a matrix #, I don't think for one bit that a record company would send out a record in that state, do you? this is yet another bit of the of Northern Soul". the value of it is about £20 maybe more to a DJ DAVE K

Hesitations - Push A Little Harder - This Is A Mystery To Me
Dave - what does the matrix look like on your copy please? Is it all scratched out like mine? Cheers Richard HI RICH The matrix on my copy for "push a little harder" MSV-7883-1C if you look above the HLR 10180, You will see most of the matric # except for the -1C. I have checked all the rare soul demos on the orange label, all matrix # are clear, DAVE K.

The Hesitations - Did They Totally Sell Out?
HI ALL...JUST TO MENTION - SHORTY LONG, HAD A MINOR HIT WITH "A WHITER SHADE" AS DIID JACKIE MITTO, As for soul artist & groups who sang pop, even the old race label OKeh. had a try, yet they retained their SOUL DAVE K
