Hi all, Once again my colection lets me down! Could some kind soul send me a scan of Jackie Wilson - I've Lost You - Brunswick at 300dpi? to info@hitsvillesoulclub.com Also....has anyone got (or can point me in the direction of), a pic/photo of Nat Tarnopol. I've been looking for months and can't trace a pic of him. I remember somewhere that I've seen a pic of him and Jackie together but can't remember where I've seen it. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  2. Aha! Another Ollie Fan! I have all of his stuff with Deon Jackson and none of it is expensive or particularly rare. As far as I'm aware it was never booted either. The Carla Records by DJ are all on the Red label variants. A quick serach of gemm or ebay should throw up results for you. As far as recomendations are concerned, try this link here https://www.hitsvillesoulclub.com/articles/art001/art001.html for an intro to Ollie's work which includes DJs stuff as well, but basically you can't go wrong with any DJ track, he didn't make a bad one. If you like Deon's stuff then the rest of the labels' soul output is certainly worth investigating, there's some fantastic music on the labels. He also has an LP of Detroit songs that's worth having. Once again, not rare at all. I think Deon Jackson is currently living in Memphis. If anyone has any contact details I'd appreciate them. Hope this helps. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com PS. You've made my day with this post! Strange how it's the little things that put a spring in an ole soulies step eh?
  3. Might be a little obvious but.....Mongo Santamaria did some fantastic upbeat soul tinted work. Getting It Out Of My System - Columbia is a great Northern instrumental with a latin influenced hint to it. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  4. Really happy memories now of this 45. I took it with me to the Cleft Club and ended up singing it a cappella with Billy Jackson on the street corner. He still knew EVERY word! We then went through the Tymes "Northern" discography with the guys, Billy, Dave Fergie and I all singing a cappella. One of the highlights of my collecting life. All on tape too! Great record. Real "Fanfare" intro and then they just sweep you up amongst it all. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  5. Mike I'd be interested in this if you have the actual copy. If not for sale, would you send me a scan at 300dpi Mate. Best, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Yep, Sold me on all that Mate. Congratulations, you have just achieved what most of my friends and family thought was impossible! You have (their words, not mine), dragged me into the 21st Century (albeit kicking and screaming!) I shall be ordering my first ever CD shortly. I hope it will be first and last, but you never know........... thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Hi Paul, Just a quick question.....are ALL the tracks on the CD from tapes/remastered or are some of them from 45s and then cleaned up? Also, are there any liner notes and if so who wrote them? Just wanna be sure as I don't currently own a single CD but am tempted by this. Was Marilyn Bond involved in this project? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  8. You'd be suprised how many people I meet in the States that think these forums are the "actual" "scene" itself!! I'm constantly trying to explain that 50 people posting on a forum is not "The Scene" and that the silent majority are actually more typical of UK soulfolks. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  9. ROD, I'm afraid I'm now left with no choice but to throw suspicion and aspersions on your claim to be a true Norvener. This is a public forum and in the above post you have used "words" to decribe the hues of said 45 sleeves as "Avoc*do" "Mag*nta" and of course the give a way was use of the work "P*nk". To use these words in connection with things vinyl related is Northern heracy, unless of course you are one of thoses strange "touchy feely types' that allow their female Mates access to their liccleblackplastikfingswotweluvs&treshures. This is of couse a dead givaway that your actual birthright must be further South than you claim as we all know that these colours are actually: Brown Green Pale Red As for organising record boxes it's simple: White Demos in box Rest on floor! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  10. Kinnel! My wife would have roasted by balls if I'd ever thought of doing something like that! Come to think of it......I wouldn't have ever thought of doing that to my kid! Im stunned! Unless of course this is a wind up. You married? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  11. John Rhys-Eddins currently lives in California and has recently been in the studio with his old friend Matt Lucas (Baby You Better Go Go - Karen) working on new material as well as a couple of Golden World unreleased things. He was certainly a little bit more than "hired help" for both Harry Balk (Impact/Big Top etc) and Ed Wingate. He was instrumental in the building of the recording studio/equipment at what was to become Studio B and amongst the more obvious garage/blues/pop artists he wrote and produced for, he is also co- credited with writers credits for Time Will Pass You By - Tobi Legend. (For which he assures me he recieved royalties from Russ Winstanley's RKO reissue in the 70s). John's main love is the Blues and he is very accomplished musician (guitar), in that genre. John has an abundance of stories and tales to tell of the music scene in sixties Detroit and some of them will hopefully appear in the new magazine "There's That Beat!" which sees it's first copy hit the US streets in August. For more info on John and his current Blues orientated projects check out: https://www.bluepower.com/ Tell him we setcha! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  13. Great record. Been around for years, but for some reason never really had it's five minutes of fame with the dancers. Clarence is a native Floridian and is still on the circuit as his rather risque alter ego - BLOWFLY. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Is this picking up plays? I've just shifted 3 of these in the last week or so. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  15. Good Mod sounding 60s song, but too "Fourmost", "Jay and The Americans", "Tommy Good" sounding for Northern dancefloors I think. Mod dancefloors would lap it up though I reckon. Have to agree with Mr Rounce though.....Eddie and Ernie?!! You cheeky pup! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Great double sider. "Tender Words" did the rounds over 20 years ago, however ...flip it over for the most powerful version of a classic you'll ever hear. Patti gives it all and the breaks are needed to give yer ears a rest before she assault's 'em again. Fantastic record! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  17. Is this the same Luther Davis Grp as the one on Inner I? STILL can't remember what I heard in that 45 that made me want it! Had a great Memorial Day weekend at Jason's, Styrene45 came home with blisters from too much dancin'! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  18. Hi Mike, Be careful.........Styrene reads this sometimes!! She's been there too! When my little "cherub' was growing up he used to hang around with me and the records so he's got an ear for it....sort of. I still find tapes in his car that disappeared from mine 10/15 years ago! As a nipper he used to ask...."Hey Dad, play: "Clock that fell off the wall" - (Chubby Checker - Everything's Wrong) "Funny Funny Feeling" - (Al Kent - Way You Been Acting Lately) "A Little Bit Stronger" - Chuck Jackson - I Only Get This Feeling) "That one with the 'squeaky voice'" - (Little Anthony - Gonna Fix You Good) As he went through his teenage years he liked all the Ric Tic/Golden World stuff and used to ring me up to ask what songs were called. He never caught the vinyl bug however, and now thinks his Dad is this rather strange wide eyed buffoon who should be sat in a dark corner to pore over the strange little black plastic things from the last century, that take up most of his life. When he has a beer he does a great impression of a Northern Soul dancer. A sort of finger clickin, hand clapping, air drum playing banshee!! Hey....that sounds like someone we know!! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Hi Baz, Just different opinions Mate. Nothing personal. That is after all, the point of a forum innit? You are advocating schill-bidding whilst claiming you would never "bid something up". The 2 actions are competely at odds! Ah well.......let's see how Rod does with the records this time round...... Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Rod, Nothing "lilac" is allowed in the town where I live Mate! We simply don't recocgnise the word! Nor shall we EVER! Bidding on your own records is bollox. Whatever the reason. If Mr Manship was found bidding on his own records in his auctions people would be all over him like a rash. You've only to revisit the thread a few months ago in which John had to "put the record straight" about his auction procedures. I just find it strange that "etiquette" is all over the place. Maybe it's case of niaivete, but some collectors seem to adapt whichever "set of rules" suits their particular moment as a buyer or seller. Just put your records on a list, price 'em up, bang 'em up, sell 'em at what you ask and be done with it! No need for all the peripheral mind games bollox! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com PS. And STOP calling me Shirley!

Exactly the reason a lot of people are starting to shun Ebay. All you're doing is falsely inflating the records on that particular medium. This is Shill Blidding, is unethical and I'm sure by ebay's rules (crappy though they are), illegal. You're reasoning makes no sense to me: In your sales box for 60 On lists up to 100 Sold for 42 You paid 50 You'd never have had these differentials amongst collectors before the advent of Ebay/guides. Shill bidding is just another sly miserably peevish way to extract a few more $$$ for from fellow soulies. (Unless of course you tell people that your "mate" has put in a false bid). It's strange that whenever someone asks for a price check for a 45 on here the answer is usually derived from one of the guides or Popspike. "Protecting an investment" mmm Nice one. Almost as cliche as "It's What's In The Grooves That Count" or "Keep The Faith". Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  24. I said it when they did the Motown Mix a while back.............................Pearls before swine! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
