  1. With that in mind, Bobby Rush was born Emmett Ellis Jr, the son of pastor Emmett Ellis Sr. Bobby Rush had nine siblings. One of them is called Larry James Ellis and he was apparently also in the music business. Info on the family here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/134804364/emmett-ellis He's commonly being referred to as "Larry Ellis" (see photo etc in linked article), but maybe, just MAYBE he released a 45 on the same label as his brother as "Jimmy Ellis". Pure speculation ofcourse on my part, but who knows? PB JunctionStarlit Night with Bobby Rush Tribute | PB JunctionIn spite of the storms outside, Pine Bluff enjoyed a starlit night with a tribute to Grammy winning Blues legend Bobby Rush.
  2. The Ortofon 2M Red has got horrid inner groove distortion which makes it a particularly bad choice for 7" records. The 2M Blue is great though, and the 2M Bronze is spectacular. I haven't tried it myself yet, but have heard a lot of good stuff about the Nagaoka MP-110 from people that earlier used WhiteLabel and/or M44G. It's very close to the WhiteLabel in terms of output, recommended tracking weight, low record wear etc.
  3. Is that really Johnny Copeland? Doesn't sound like his voice. Fantastic track regardless!
  4. I missed that connection! The sound on that Puddin' Heads 45 is absolutely BRUTAL for being from 1964. Top notch teenbeat/garage!
  5. I'm sorry, I have never heard it. Have you checked with Ady Croasdell? I think Ace/Kent have access to the Dore master tapes.
  6. A copy has sold here: https://wanted-records.com/collections/sold-out/products/chocolate-chips-the-funky-chicken-b-w-same-dore-838-northern-soul
  7. The a-side was penned by Al Reed. Almost all records that his compositions appear on are blocked from sale on Discogs "as a result of legal notice received by Discogs asserting that the release was not authorized by the rights holder. Ref. #438231" There are totally legit Joe Simon, David Ruffin, Ernie K Doe etc. records that are blocked because of this. It's ridiculous. Here's a list of the records, most of them are blocked: https://www.discogs.com/artist/623314-Al-Reed?superFilter=Credits
  8. The Rampart/Warner Bros label 45s were released to coincide with the 1969 "oldies but goldies" type of compilation "West Coast East Side Revue: Golden Treasures - Volume Two": https://www.discogs.com/release/6705328-Various-West-Coast-East-Side-Revue-Golden-Treasures-Volume-Two
  9. Not if it's a newie.
  10. No, they released The Show Stoppers "Ain't Nothing But A House Party" as well: https://www.45cat.com/record/pt1002
  11. That's so true. Big thanks for giving Helena and our club a mention.
  12. Really glad to hear that Club Function is still on people's minds, Paul! I (Sebastian Fonzeus) ran that club night together with my friends Jonte Lindell, Helena Strömdahl and Joppe Odhner. The first night took place in January 2007. The last night was our 5th anniversary which took place on Saturday the 14th of January 2012. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any other info.
  13. Just noticed that Leroy Barbour even copyrighted the song as his own! The original copyright info (and label info) miscredits Terrence "Terry" Callier as Terrance Collier.
  14. It is also interesting to note that Leroy Barbour cut a version of "I Ain't Going Nowhere" in 1975 on the Frontiersman label, entirely omitting details of the original songwriters. Produced by Phillip Mitchell.
  15. I noticed that two acetates were sold in January 2020 on ebay containing crude demo versions of these four songs: https://gripsweat.com/item/383351099875/unknown-i-am-in-love-with-you-on-acetate-soul-demo-45-vg-hear https://gripsweat.com/item/362869417702/unknown-i-aint-going-nowhere-on-acetate-soul-demo-45-vg-hear I have uploaded the demo versions to YouTube for posterity's sake:
  16. Must be these two, which were included on his fathers' "The New Jimmy Reed Album" from 1967:
  17. Don't they all have "A Declon Recording" printed on the label? Declon was the licensing arm of London Records in the US (which released UK Decca recordings in the US).
  18. The only 7" release I know of is this japanese EP: https://www.discogs.com/release/27114270-The-Fifth-Dimension-Individually-Collectively
  19. Really liking this one at the moment, came out about 6 months ago but I didn't hear it until recently: KSR & Konny Kon - Part Of The Plan
  20. What does it say on the test pressing? Any writing on the labels? What's in the deadwax? Isn't the version of "I Gotta Stand For Something" credited to Apple And The Three Oranges on the Now-Again label compilation the exact same versions that were released as by both Barney Williams and Professor And The Efficiency Experts on STANSON cat# 123?
  21. That sounds reasonable. Found this site a moment ago (that I had no idea existed), it has got some good info: https://www.monarchrecorddatabase.com/monarch-history
  22. I think you're absolutely right. But are you 100% sure that Monarch actually pressed vinyl? I've read elsewhere that they only had styrene presses and vinyl records that carry a delta number were pressed at Alco and not Monarch.
  23. Many of the records pressed on vinyl that bears a "monarch" delta number were actually pressed by Alco. Monarch and Alco shared the same delta numbering system. The records pressed on vinyl that used the monarch delta numbering system should have a (sometimes very faint) Alco stamp in addition to the delta number in the run-out groove.
