  1. Ken .. as ever .. brilliant work and appreciated .. all of these bits of the jigsaw are so important thank you for your continuing efforts to document such matters Andy
  2. Here is a related article ... the pictures speak for themselves Andy
  3. In my opinion the one you had Dobber is not authentic .. the picture is poor but looks like the Jobete artwork Miss Ray used for her New York recordings and would never have been used for Detroit tracks Brenda recorded the song at Hitsville in Dec 64 .. and Jimmy in Oct 64 ... close together but Jobete, as far as I’m aware, never did 2 sided acetates ... these were acetates made to ‘promote’ Jobete published songs to the music industry to give non-Motown artists the opportunity to listen to tunes for recording themselves Robb K could articulate their purpose far better than I Andy
  4. It is .. of that I'm sure 🙃
  5. That thought had never crossed my mind ... it is an interesting take on deception ... I think it fits very nicely into the cover-up scene
  6. As is life wasn't busy enough !
  7. I'm very confused .. is Sexton a 'real' label' or just an art thing ? Andy
  8. I'll square up with you next time I see you ... if I remember 🙂 Will look forward to all of the 'additional' info .. sounds very intriguing and interesting Trust all is well with you Andy
  9. I'm on my second copy .. the first came from Soulman (Steve H) .. he mentioned giving one away when he upgraded his first copy but I'm sure I gave him £18 for it .. well possibly £20 .. or maybe I just said I would and then forgot to pay !! I got my second copy from William 'Bill' Tuthill who wrote the tune and was the original lead vocalist before his efforts, deemed not to be good enough, resulted in the arrival of Cecil Washington I was amazed that nobody had contacted Bill before and recall the unusual telephone conversation when I first called Female answers .. Mrs Tuthill AR .. Hello can I speak to William Tuthill please Mrs T .. Oh I'm sorry but you can't AR .. OK is he out .. shall I call back later Mrs T ..no .. he's dead so won't be back .. what did you want to talk to him about AR .. I'm sorry to hear that .. I wanted to talk to him about his music career when he lived in Detroit Mrs T .. oh ok you want William Jr. .. I'll get you his number So William Jr had 2 copies .. a file copy & a play copy .. after a lot of negotiation he agreed to sell the play copy and would post it once he had moved house which was imminent .. I paid the money and waited patiently .. after a few follow up calls he told me he'd lost the play copy in the house move but so would have to send the file copy The postman knocks on the door and hands me a jiffy bag ... no cardboard or anything to protect the 45 .. just a fragile record inside a jiffy bag .. I thought here we go again this will be like another copy of the Counts on Shrine .. smashed into 6 pieces .. what sort of person would think you can send a record from the USA to the UK in a jiffy bag .. so I was prepared for the worst but it had survived intact and a mint copy to boot .. happy days In addition I asked Bill to write out the lyrics for me .. and as a bonus the 45 is in it's 'birth sleeve' (I hate that term) .. which has written on it 'The Tuthill Family' .. John M would be so proud 😂 Andy

I’m intrigued by the inclusion of Stan Williams in the Shrine group ... having spoken to the other 3 members he was never mentioned so be interested to know where that information has come from .. maybe they just forgot ! In addition Harry Bass was in a group called the Epsilons but they never recorded under that name ...they then became the Toreadors recording for Pawn and Midas (NY Label) .. and then as the Matadors on Keith in addition to providing the BVs on ‘She’s All Right’ by Jackie Wilson and the Ray Pollard recordings for Shrine Andy
  12. I’m pretty sure there’s a rare soul valuations, or similar, Facebook group where you can ask about current values ... that might provide pretty quick and sensible guidance Andy

I've never looked into it given that Tim Ashibende got there first so I assumed he'd have asked all those questions ... Dave Brown's notes for the Uplook CD doesn't even mention the DoS .. so no info there I'm afraid Andy

I got mine from Soul Bowl .. £10 and a clean, non-water damaged, copy ... Ian Clark tipped me off as it was still being played as the Harmonics - I'll Be Right There Got 2 copies of Charles Mintz on one of the Philly trips ... let them both go in time as DoS is the better version I tried to sell my DoS a few years ago for circa £300 but nobody was interested ... as a result it's still here .. thankfully I might say Andy
  15. Here it is Andy
  16. I've checked my old notes .. I did purchase on 2 August 81 ... Dave said I could go collect from Notts Palais dayer and if I hadn't arrived by a certain time Soul Sam was having it ... I didn't drive so had to persuade somebody to take me Andy
  17. It would have been late 81 early 82 as I purchased this from Dave Raistrick in August 81, for £50, and played it out as Don Gardner & The Chicago Hit Men ... I lent it to Ian so he cut get an acetate cut to play ... and then he secured a copy for himself it’s getting harder to keep track of time as the years pass Andy
  18. So John has listed a Dena Barnes and supplied this information which answers the question I originally posed ... https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/dena-barnes-if-you-ever-walk-out-of-my-life-who-am-i-you-ought-to-know-inferno-2002-dj.html "It's hard to believe a voice of such exquisite quality, the voice of an Angel; had only two 45 releases, this is Dena's second Detroit 45 unlike her first record guided by Motown trained George Fowler some years earlier credited to Rose Morris on Puff Records." I've listened to the YT post and sort of hear her when she was obviously a few years younger ... does anybody know the provenance of the information .. I'm just intrigued to know who 'knew' Andy
  19. It is Gino Washington .. Pete Lowrie got it from him on one of his Detroit trips Andy

Evening Simon audiodisc acetate ... no artist name .. as you know played by Mr Brady as Jerry Cook .. pretty sure this came from John Anderson originally because when Steve purchased it from him he commented that he’d got it back .. from Pat B I therefore assume ... this surfaced at the same time as all of the acetates and vinyl that John got from the Leaner group e.g Mr Misery, Ringleaders, Accents, Jimmie & Entertainers ... so could it be a Chicago track or just a coincidence Andy
  21. Decided not to be so lazy but couldn’t find it on Discogs .... found it on Juno https://www.juno.co.uk/products/the-greatest-thing-rare-classic-60s/830766-01/ A
  22. Have you got a link ? Andy
  23. Beyond impressive ..... What a amazing piece of work Andy
  24. As noted the song was written by Rose Marie McCoy ... I see there is a YT link above ... .. but I have recorded it straight from the acetate, that came from Rose, of her demo vocal for the song Andy Rose Marie McCoy I Remember The Feeling demo.mp3
