  1. Both the label variants seem to be Rite pressings from the plant in Ohio I believe. They have that distinctive dish in the middle.
  2. George Firstly I think Russell makes some good points in the fact that its probably close to its most popular today and we see this in the commercial use of soul tracks on TV adverts, programs etc. As for the age demographic, its true that at most events in the UK the attendees are in the 45 - 60 range. The main reasons are familiarity with and love of the music, socialising with old friends from across the country and of course there is a certain nostalgic "pull" in all of this, remembering our youth as it were. Some people have stuck with the scene from the early days, others have returned after marriage, kids etc. In the early days (for me around mid 70's when I was 13) it was about the music primarily but it was also about being part of something that wasn't mainstream but was 'underground'. Our parent didn't really understand it - all this staying out all night dancing, or hunkered over record boxes in some strange place miles away from home. Paradoxically commercial recognition was seen as the enemy of the scene - we didn't want the mainstream media involved. Today I see a small number of younger NS fans on the scene, probably dragged along by their parents initially, but eventually learning to love it and be part of it. Some promoters actively try to give younger DJ's a chance to spin. There are some on here who relatively young and can probably expand on their own thoughts. The scene in other parts of the world however is different and has a much younger demographic. Check out Youtube vids for venues in Europe, Scandinavia, US and Japan etc where the age relative to UK punters is much younger. I guess for these the NS sound and scene is culturally different to what they experience in their home nations. In my formative years it did shape my identity to some extent as the scene was allied to the white working classes by and large and thrived in the most industrial and dare I say it socio-economically deprived areas. At that period it also came along with its own dress code where you were easily identifiable as a soul fan, but you wanted this as part of your persona. Why is there nothing comparable today ? Difficult to answer but I guess its down to technology in the form of computers, internet etc which seems to have both changed behaviours and provide instant access to any new phenomenon sweeping across nations. You don't have to get out and experience it anymore - you can do that from your armchair. The internet is global so new trends are no longer hidden underground as some form of secret and our thirst for knowledge and new experiences can be satisfied via a screen and a Wi-Fi connection.
  3. I lived in Dubai for a few years and it didn't do my black treasures any harm when outside temps in summer have gone way above 50 C . Just keep them indoors out of direct sunlight. Anyway I think the melting point would be around 100 - 120 Deg C for vinyl. BTW I kept the A/C on all day with no issues either.
  4. One here..... https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/gatur.htm and here ... https://www.globaldogproductions.info/g/gatur.html
  5. Just going through some of the old storage boxes yesterday and found 2 copies of this beauty.....just have a listen. Probably the best Arctic double sider and probably one of the best Northern double siders. These were done as official reissues by the Jamie Guyden set up many years ago. The originals fetch crazy money in todays market - last one I saw was 500 some years ago and the going rate today ?? So here's a chance to own one for £25 UK Pounds £1.50 First post, £2.50 Recorded, Special would be £9 approx. and world wide standard air £5. PM's please Andy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEomKN8BUno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGURt8D_U1E
  6. Should be an easy one to get. I bought one off the guy on Ebay selling them around 10 years ago for $8 and he actually sent me 5 copies !!
  7. Just because people don't respond it doesn't mean its not known. Its had spins over the years in many different places as others have said. There are lots of this type of record, but the point in my previous post was that the 45 I was referring to was well known and even booted due to its popularity in the late 70's. When a disc such as this is described as a "semi known" I think the BS has gone a bit to far. Like I say give your opinion if you think its good "lovely crossover", "nice early northern" etc etc no problem.
  8. Nice one Mal. There was one on here just last week I think which described a certain record as "semi known" and "right for todays DJ" or words to that effect. I nearly choked on my fecking cornflakes, it was hugely popular sound mid - late 70's Wigan and was booted to meet demand !! You can still buy the boot for a couple of quid or so. Now I don't mind someone giving their opinion of a record like "nice uptempo northern" or such, but when the record is a well known oldie.......come on. What's next Sam Williams and the Tomangos as the latest "new discoveries just ripe for today" ?
  9. Think Andy Whitmore has a copy as I seem to recall he put it on tape for me way back when.
  10. These may be of help to you https://www.soundswholesaleltd.co.uk/ Andy
  11. Here are some nice bits ranging from Ex to M- for your delectation. Postage is £1.50 UK First, £2.50 Recorded, Special would be around £8 and Worldwide £5. Payment as Paypal F&F or add 4% if you prefer that way. PM's please NOTE: If you fancy them all as a package deal let me know we can work it out ! Bernie Milton: £45 ( £100 on dealers) Bill Jacocks: £25 Black and Blue : £20 Carl Carlton : £10 (slight ring on label, underrated for me) Ferry Brothers: £40 (on lists £75) Gaslight: £15 Jades: £15 Jupiter: £20 Robin Hood: £35 (old Dean Anderson spin on lists £100 double sider) Roger Troy: £20 (sticker mark on label) Trends: £25 (their xover best for me)
  12. Didn't John Manship auction one of these a couple of years ago ? Maybe the old memory is playing tricks.
  13. After a copy of this if anyone has one spare. I can make an offer or you can let me know what you're looking for - I'm easy either way. PM me please Cheers
  14. Yes I saw that one Steve which is why I asked. Several have gone though using the S1 and S 22 and were stated originals and one listing made reference to a warehouse find. Then I saw the one you flag up and thought ....mmm...that matrix is more like it, I've never seen it before and the record is a bit more worn...probably an original. I was just wondering if anyone who had bought the 45 from the Las Vegas guy could check their run out grooves ? Someone on here must have bought one over the years I'm sure.
  15. Thought I'd try this again Anyone ??
  16. Tried that. I would say the 45 played better, but was left with 'grey grooves' and some residue I couldn't get rid of.
  17. I am indeed young man and will be attending. Do we need to pre-book ? Andy
  18. When is the next one Sean ? I was away on business for the last one. Andy
  19. OK so we all know that this 45 has been booted or reissued by the group depending on the blurb you agree with and of course they are available in every colour of vinyl via the Las Vegas seller in the US. However, I noticed that a few have gone through Evilbay recently selling for big money and the descriptions referencing originals with a machine stamped matrix 45-01 S-1 and also mentioning a warehouse find in Tx. These were not sold by the usual seller in LV. Can anyone confirm the validity of this matrix information ? Thanks
  20. I think from memory the 45 is mentioned in Shelly Garrets book....' The Unbelievable and True Story Behind Shelly Garrett's Beauty Shop'. From memory tho' so could be wrong
  21. If anyone has a copy for sale please let me know. Happy to make offer or PM price and condition - easy either way. Cheers Andy
  22. Paul to send a PM just click on the "White Envelope" symbol on the top right of the page and then "compose new" button and that's your PM email. Just put in the name of the recipient as their name appears on site eg. Henning v Herzen. Job done. Cheers Andy
  23. Both good tracks again, but "That's what you mean.." is the best for me. This should be bigger than the first 45 I think. Just waiting for the box from Daptone to drop thru the door Keep 'em comin' fella
