  1. I remember a line in the Temptations movie where they are told they are going to change their style. A comment is made that the new material is not proper soul music.. Then Meester Gordy says, so what, we want to sell more records and not race records but pop records. The writing was on the wall! Not sure many morals or principles are held in the music industry full stop. Ed
  2. Was this actually played first? Or was it the pye WCF version? All said and done...it got those dancers 'at it' Ed

I'd love the real singer to come forward and claim the glory.... Similar story to 'Tobi Legend' It really is a ruthless business. Ed
  4. Not heard the four Sonics in yonks! Great choices. Cheers. Ed
  5. No doubt I'll get reprimanded for this...but to be there and see this being sung twice..still send shivers down my back. Ed
  6. Cheers for that. Betty Wright rules ok! Lots and lots of oldies being played even then. Feels just like yesterday...and dont forget the hall filled the gap when the assembly rooms closed. Happy times. Ed
  7. When Eddie Foster dee da do was first played at the casino was it a Carver or one of the three? Or four with the test press.. How about other covered up super rare toons at the time? Was I'm gone only played off the original for example when got plugged back in the day? Ed
  8. The film and song across 110th street.. The film is set in Harlem and takes its name from 110th Street, the traditional dividing line between Harlem and Central Park that functioned as an informal boundary of race and class in 1970s New York City.
  9. I actually crossed 110th street in January this year to get to 112th street...and visit Tom's diner resteraunt (as features in Sienfield). I did think about the great song whilst crossing. Ed
  10. Well Sir, in my humble opinion it is a great track, and watching this lady singing it live gives me a sense of real atmosphere in her delivery of message. In a nutshell she is singing her heart out, enjoying performing, and enjoying her moment. However, as always, it's your site, so feel free to delete or move as appropriate. Ed
  11. How many remember this! Tony sounds like Kev Robert's.. Long after the upper hand, but still a great tune. She is lovely! Ed
  12. OMG Shirley Brown is exquisite.... Ed
  13. So sad. RIP. Massive massive tune at Windmill Youth club where the soulies and punks danced to this....even if it was different styles: Ed
  14. Sit back and listen to a master class in emotional soul. Ed
  15. Lend a hand BH Time marches on LH It's all over CM Ed
  16. Stevies uptight, isleys why when love, temps why you wannabe make me blue, edwins weakness, contours misunderstanding, and about 500 others... How else could you dance to them? Fair enough if happy go lucky 3rd finger or baby love comes on you might have to simplify the moves like for queen of fools.. Ed
  17. Great work finding new tracks like these. Ed
  18. Sad news again. RIP. Here's a bit more info on the group. Ed
  19. Very sad news. A record that borders on bringing a tear to your eye...will certainly tonight. More soul than Northern for sure. Number 7 in the Cleveland charts shows there was an appetite for ' our music' out in the states. In his interview above, which is fantastic, including his 2018 single...both sides..highlighted his desire to make more great music. I hope whatever he had in the production line can be shared. RIP Gene. Ed
  20. Great historical insight into the Mecca and its early beginnings. I can imagine the 1971 punters listening to 'A love reputation and Angel baby' having a ducky fit when the left field disco sounds took over. What was Godins thoughts about the mid 70s music policy at the Mecca? Anybody got an insight? Ed
  21. Wish I'd never picked up a pneumatic jigger pick and bolt buster in my formative years.... Amazing how anybody can pick up those backing singers.....in deef for sure. Ed
  22. I'm impressed by the hearing skills you lot have! I would have missed them all. Having said that I still cannot identify where 'lend a hand' is said in 'Lend a hand'.... I must be mutt and Jeff. Ed
  23. I'd rather talk about great concerts...so... Gladys Knight and extended family LV 2004 bloody awful...and we'd driven 5 hours from LA to see her....but a few years later without all the hangers on .... in Nottingham.....Superb. She is my favourite female vocalist based on females who could put 20 brilliant tracks together....Linda Jones based on just a few tracks. Ed
