  5. ok. Thanks. Reason I asked, I got a record the other day with labels on both sides blackened (bit like jamaican pre-releases). Seller didn't know what the actual record was. Turned out to be Frankie Beverly Because of my heart. It looked too much of a bootleg made look less obvious so I had my doubts that it's an original. Your post confirmed it isn't.
  6. Does somebody have the run-out details of Frank Beverly on Fairmount? Is there a stamp or something like that to distinguish it from the pressing? Thanks Benji
  7. Not really. But Embers is reasonable if it's an issue.
  8. Starts off ok sounding a bit like an 1980s remix. But as soon as the vocals kick in it's getting worse and worse. Original is nice but a tad too fast IMO.
  9. Well, obviously many disagree with me and keep their copies. Or they're greedy and wait if it get's even more expensive.
  10. Awful record (IMHO). Plenty of copies around. Don't know where they disappeared to. Ended up with two copies after I bought two 15 count soul packs from two different UK dealers in the early 2000's. Can't see what's so special about it....
  11. IRS seized the remained stock of Ray Dobard's Music City Records shop, about 250.000+ records, in the early 2000's. IRS put the lot up for auction, John Manship and two other dealers won it. Ray shut down the shop in the early 70s and left everything untouched ever since. The stock was unbelievable. Ray did not just run a record shop but he was a wholesale distributor as well. Many record companies sent him promos, boxes of undistributed records, etc. etc. (e.g. still sealed promo mailers from Shrine, or 25 count boxes of Jackie Day on Phelectron). I wouldn't be surprised if somebody says that of every 1960s west coast/california Northern Soul 45 at least one copy was in this find. I'm convinced JM is still auctioning stuff from that 'find' and will be for many years to come.
  12. I rate SW @ 100 in EX/M-. So 50 for a VG+ is fair.
  13. I love it and I'd play it out if I were dj'ing. Best version as well IMHO.
  14. Many UK releases were not taken from a master tape but dubbed from the US 45 equivalent. Maybe they dubbed BL from disc and fiddled around with the mastering to improve sound quality?
  15. BOB BRADY & CON-CHORDS - GOODBYE BABY - CHARIOT (EX,dh) £50 SOLD Top quality Northern Soul oldie, what else is there to say? Bob Brady - Goodbye baby (clip).mp3 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ worldwide P&P from Germany: £3.20 standard / £5.10 signed for / £6.50 fully insured (EU only) Payment Paypal only. As gift if possible but not necessary. Please PM for details.
  16. It's a quote from an austrian website for an 2004 allnighter: https://www.recordshack.org/pages/flyer/sos_backgrounds_english.html
  17. That makes more sense I guess. But 96/97 more likely. I won my own copy in the Shades of Soul competition but got a second copy shortly later from a local funk collector. He got it from Kent but didn't know what to do with it, wasn't funky enough for him.
  18. Give "Help the door" a try. A great record. And definitely soul. Straight on my wants list.
  19. Sorry for hijacking this thread. Are steppers and rare groove sounds still played out loud anywhere? Just wondering....
  20. two from my collection: Paying the cost to be the boss, Heartbreaker. Both solid R&B worth a spin or two
  21. Benji replied to grant's topic in Record Wants
I guess you'll find out the german release is much rarer than the UK one. And I don't want to even think about the italian one.
  22. I guess most copies are "lost" nowadays. Tucked away at the back of the collection of some music business promotion guy or offloaded at the local 2nd hand record shop.
  23. Yes, probably from the west coast find.
