  2. thought I'd seen a shop with that name in didsbury Derek, but can t be 100%
  3. Me brother says it were massive at Wigan and he can remember standing on the balcony listening to it.
  4. NO cause its not, but not dancing is, and there is a sizable proportion of collectors that dont dance and maybe a few more on the rare scene than on the oldies curcuit, just an observation.
  5. Yep twas busy, but the floor was never packed, maybe something to do with a larger proportion of the rare crowd being collectors, rather than dancers, oops I maybe accidently hit on one of the problems...........
  6. Gawd Ady I hope its the latest Levine recordings, oooowere!!!!. PMSL.
  7. A more serious contempory take from me this time, 2 x 1/2 hour intergrated slots from the following Mace Johhny (lowrider) Beggs Ted colsaw, sorry Ted, Des Parker Karl Heard Adam Topping Dave Abbott Gumbo Ya Ya George Mahood Diva Di Rob, last hour, smith. 11. Jimmy Saville ( jus for da kidz) Jimmy Summerville ( for the small town boyz) Guy Stephens Rodger Eagle Jimmy Jimmy (Your face is a mess) Dave Evison Jimmy jamm and Terry Lewis ( doing a retro new jack swing slot) + any other notable jimmy's who turn up on the night, all DJ do 12 min spots, 3 and a 1/2 records each, they all have to snap one in half!
  12. Upfront to me is about developing the sound, widening the perimetres of the scene, playing something fresh and exciting.I been to so many rare night where I've known an awful lot of the tunes played, and I certainly dont describe myself as an expert, but things that usually originate from the late wigan period or Stafford days, items that have been on CD's for quite a while now as well as being availible on tube and download, far from upfront, just oldies by a different name.
  13. this seems pretty honest to me. But its never as clear cut as this, there are simply loads of punters who would refuse the stand in either or both camps.
  14. personally I think both sides have much to answer for. The oldies formula needs the imput and interaction of the rare scene, ( for me an alltogether different animal than upfront) and I've also heard many top jocks spin average sets by applying the why play a great £100 or £10 record, when I can show off and pay a mediocre one that I payed a grand for, mentatilty. But the biggest problem omho is the lack of records crossing over from one scene to the other, where are the Nolan porter, Billy Davis, Gloria Lyn, AC Reed's ect that fed through to virtually every soul night in the country 10 or 15 years ago. the real problem isnt attendences, I'm perfectly happy to dance with 150 like minded souls,, its just so worring how divourced the two scence have become from one and other.
  15. unless they play a ska record.
  16. unless they play a ska record.
  17. probably ben done to death before, but as a healthy alternative to Butch's thread ( will the real mr Dobson please stand up) what have you had cheap as chaps from a booty of charity fazzle lately. Nothing major for me, I dont live near a swap meet in Idaho, but picked up, lou Rawls- silk and soul Bob and Earl- B and C tower of power lp for £2 at my last boot sale. oh and Laverne Baker- Bumble Bee on london ( just loooooove it) for £3 from a market staff last month.
  18. The thing that pleased me most about the first change was the amount of younger punters it had attracted, if for nothing else I considered it a sucsess for that reason alone.
  19. cheers guys thats helpful, great tune and just right for now as the cliche goes......
  20. little rena scott- just cant forget thaty boy, manship list this sublime uptempo item as on epic, mines on grand junction and not listed, is it the same version? rare? anyonew else have it on this label?
  21. Aye up mate long time no see!I'd say aroung the 40- 50 mark shute, apparantly its a better cut on the lp tho as the 45 has a predisposition to styrene burn!
  22. loads of us used to go into Eastern block and say have you got 'da da da, dum dum'.
