one thing that's seems unique to the NS scene is the sheer amount of collectors/ wannabe dj's there are. its vast, seems like virtually every man (and a lot of women too) on the scene has some aspirations or a little box tucked away somewhere. Even in the heady days of the early 90's when record deck sales outstripped electric guitars, at the height of all that superstar dj madness, there was never as many aspirational DJ members of the rave scene. On many scenes you need a level of skill to dj, either learning to beat match, nowadays a lot easier but you still need to get to grips with tech on some level. For hip hop heads its about scratching and beat juggling and spending lots of hours learning those skills and of course digging for breaks, ones that are unique to you. all it takes, on the mainstream NS scene, is a big bag of cash, no point in searching out anything original, they wont dance to it anyway! Or you could do what many big dj's do and just piggy back off what the more progressive dj's were playing 5 or even 10 years ago. you might even get a cheap copy, as the're likely to be records that are now played out on the upfront scene by the time you get them anyway.

Thats the thing with guys who use cd, carvers and downloads the're always so creative. They search out the unknown obscure tunes that are not available on ovo and bring them to tbe masses. We need to thank them for driving the scene forward. 🤣

It scares me more that theyll try to respect traditions really, rather then making it their own. Its shouldnt ve about rewriting history. Thats already been done. Its about adding a fresh page or even a new testament.

especially will the boys, I think teenagers a far less mature than they used to be. To The kids I teach the thought of nicking a car or being a bus w****r all the way up to wigan, robbing a chemist, or basically just leaving mummy's aprons strings, or more likely, fortnight for an more than an hour is an impossible dream. Kids are, in general far more conservative, localised and insular than they've ever been. Standing out, being different going your own way down a cultural route just isn't an option for kids at that age. 15 is the new 9.

NOT IMHO, THE willie hutch is good tho, but I couldn't get past that bloody Spanish 4 tops, just smacks of desperation really. there some bloody awful stuff in the first half. A lot maybe rare, but its a really old fashioned concept of what Northern should by imo.

There probably as many youngish punters here as say, japan, and most would say they have some kind of scene, small scale, but still a scene. Take all us over 40 away and they'd most likely end up doing edgy, naughtier things. Well, would you with your mum/gran around? The music would probably evolve on a new direction we'd all hate. But it would be a good thing. Sadly it's not going to happen because we're not dying quickly enough.

youth aint what it was IMHO. the divergence of traditional youth, pop, culture giving way to gaming, social media, action sports, sexting and F knows what else, has meant that youth cultures based around music and style, no longer have the same cultural value they once had. Youth sub cultures don't really exist in the same form. Teaching and working with teenagers for over 18 years and I'm really not envious of what they have. Its homogenised, trite and corporate on every level. The kids were begging me for Childish Gambino this morning, I dare say I would have heard the same request if I worked in France, Brazil or even Africa. There really nothing special about that, just another rapper making dollar.

Seems odd now to think that this tune had only been discovered few years before I got into Northern in 86. It was really well know but I wouldn't describe it as hammered in the era. Had reached its peak by this point!?
