  1. For what it's worth, "Evil Annie" also fits And disclaimer, I'm in a good'n'giddy mood because a) I've been at the VRB B for bravo) an investment of mine has matured so this is one of the last few posts on my current computer - I've just ordered an iMac G5 Tiger edition and will have change to spare c) I'm looking forward to Clowne Northern Soul tomorrow night - my birthday too Oh and, I'm an Independent reader myself so am not too familiar with the Mirror
  2. Not to mention "Joy And Pain" (are like sunshine and rain, sing it with me right now)

Well I actually do sing a few tunes at the karaoke nights at my local drinking emporia, including "My Girl", "Aint Too Proud To Beg" and "Long After Tonight Is All Over" - I have a recording of my rendition of My Girl somewhere, will throw it up on my webspace if/when I can find it
  8. For what it's worth, the RCA brand still exists now - Christina Aguilera "Stripped" has an RCA logo on the CD.

Interestingly enough, it was actually booted around 1980 on what was supposed to be a Curtom white demo - it just had the words CURTOM RECORDS at the top, not the logo. I used to have one ages ago, think I gave it away - I assume it was a boot for 2 reasons: 1) sound was awful and 2) the market stall I got it from had loads for £1.25 each
  10. Interesting, I'm sure my US demo of "Paint..." is a stereo/mono, maybe the disc was repromoted with the sides filpped (as is thought to have happened with Bobby Sheen)?
  11. Separated at birth...? "You're just too good to be true, can't take my eyes off you...."
  12. If it will still burn data, maybe the timehonoured solution of backup followed by flatten'n'rebuild* is in order? *format the HD and reinstall OS+needed apps
  13. For what it's worth, that particular one always sounds to me like a knock off of "Payback's A Drag"...by the way, how much would one expect to pay for a copy of that one these days? "...You don't know how its....gonna come..."

There was an instrumental version as well - in fact just the bass/rhythm track without any brass or anything, c/u as Al Kent - and it did sound a lot like "You Gotta Pay The Price" as one can probably imagine.
  15. Hank Jacobs on Call Me

  17. Sounds kinda like it could have been the theme to an '80s teen movie
  18. If anyone's selling one for £50, I'd stick a cheque in the post for it. And add a fiver for postage.
  19. IIRC, the 7" version even at 4.30 was actually the short version- the 12" was about 7 minutes or so. One thing many forget tho' is that in general, 12"ers were never meant to be played all the way through - they were meant for mix wizards to do their stuff with. Just think, somewhere in New York or LA at some point , people were probably dancing to Curtis one minute and Anita Ward "Ring My Bell" the next, not realising the change point
  20. If the condition was that bad, couldn't it have been a normal label copy that had red wine spilt over it or summat?
  21. Yes, I know it's a totally different record - what I was wondering is that perhaps not everyone does and buy the one thinking it's the other. My "My Conscience" is LLR-01/ZTSC-142276. I haven't got "Get It Off My Conscience" - how much does that go for these days?

For what it's worth there's no national Trading Standards as such - it's the responsiblility of local councils and therefore varies area by area.
  23. Interestingly enough my copy of the Lovelites doesn't have the pictures on, just "Lovelite Records" in big letters across the top. My first thought was that mine's probably a boot but on closer inspection it has the tall characters ZTSC stamp which as I understand it is a sign of legitimacy - so official second issue perhaps? Also, I wonder if the reason it's underrated/often turning up for sale is that people buy it thinking it's "Get It Off..." and on finding it's not put it straight up for sale again?
  24. First record purchased with own money: The Brothers "Sing Me" - 1977, pop/reggae thing which I think won "Opportunity Knocks" or similar First Northern: James Coit "Black Power"
  25. Hmm, this reminds me of a post I wrote in jest for one of the lists a few years back advocating the establishment of a "Regulation of Soul Committee", or RSoul for short
