  1. My 2p worth: good song in both versions but the Sheppards has the edge for me
  2. Well I've had myself a 7" VC dub cut of a currently big 12"-only release (I have the original 12) for 2 reasons - 1) so I can put it in my 7" box and 2) I took the liberty of cutting off the repetitive thump thump thump at the beginning and end
  3. And on the same label, what about this one: The Other Side - 5 of a kind - sidra 13621 refosoul also on 1979 Soundof the Grapevine LP
  4. Real ones are ZTSC stamped.
  5. Cameo Parkway stuff has been reissued recently - maybe they wised up?
  6. Do you have stairs in your house?
  7. But could you deny that you were dancing close together?
  8. On that basis, can those of us who have CD decks built into our gear just play the CD in these cases? (It'd be more original than a vinyl dub from said CD )
  9. Actually, "Just Loving You" is available on at least 2 legitimate compilation CDs - Talk of the Grapevine and one of the Kent Dave Godin comps
  10. You mean serious players like, say, 14 year old girls using public p2p servers?
  11. Jo Boxers - Doin The Boxer Beat
  12. Yes, there does seem to be a lot of "emperor's new clothes" in the jazz world - recently I listened to a CD which sounded almost as though the band were spending half an hour tuning up

Point to remember also - sometimes the lp version is longer than the 45 - eg Curtis Mayfield "Move On Up", Prince Phillip Mithcell "Im So Happy", GIl Scott Heron "The Bottle" - no doubt there are other examples
  14. I still see Bill locally every now and then - I'll let him know you guys have been asking about him next time I see him.

As far as I know the only true original is the Kapp release which is just credited as "Rubin" - in fact, I remember reading somewhere that the "Rubin Parker" credit on this reissue was inspired by it being covered up as Eddie Parker originally? *update* just checked in JM's guide - the Rubin parker copies are actually boots.
  16. Well I must admit I liked "Rehab" but I'm afraid the two posted above don't really do a lot for me - she sounds almost like a Saturday night karaoke singer Oh and, I'm no prude but somehow a certain word which is one letter different from the Unix command for File System Check sounds a little incongruous on a soul track n'est-ce pas?
  17. Precisions tracks got around a bit didn't they - "If This Is Love" of course found its way to Eddie Spencer in Canada
  18. First record purchased (1977): The Brothers "Sing Me" (UK Bus Stop) - an Opportunity Knocks winner in a pop-reggae sort of vein First Northern (1978): James Coit "Black Power" on a pressing off Chesterfield market - this was a "whats this? its brilliant" situation, I didn't even know what Northern Soul was at the time First Collectors Item (1980): Sly and the Family Stone "Dance To The Music" on a US Epic white demo, £3.50 from JM Most recent purchase (about 2 wks ago): Mary Saxton "Take My Heart" (Quality), kind of full circle as this also came from JM
  19. Hmm, I'm sure that Sean doesn't need me to defend him but I would strongly dispute that one of the top DJs of at least the early '80s (and one of my inspirations as a spinner of sounds) doesn't understand "what the scene is all about"
  20. Could this be the one?
  21. Take My Heart on Quality - postie willing, it will be in my playbox at Clowne Anchor on Saturday night
  22. Mary Saxton - 511 and on its way to a good home...or at least an Adequate one
