  1. Yes the Central closed shortly after that and reopened again late 70's healined by swish, along with Steve Luigi and myself. Steve now runs the Central Alldayers which are very successful. To date we've had on Keith Minshull Dave evison. John Vincent. Kev Roberts. I was one if those who never took a camera with me too cumbersome, a shame really as a few did and on the photo galleries on here are nice too see.Regards Fred
  2. Did you ever go to the Leeds Central Soul club? I was one of the resident dj's there from 1978 till 1980 and it reopened in 2011 again as a Sunday all dayer every two months and I'm one of the resident Dj's. Its brilliant with all the "soulies " getting back together. Regards Fred.
  3. Hi Joey, I managed to contact Ian & Laney and gave them your regards and yes they remember you well, and we're pleased to hear from you. I told them about Soul Source as they wernt aware of it. They might come on and possibly sign up and then they will be able to speak to you themselves. They'll know shed loads of people on here.
  4. I was always worried for him as I didn't want him to do himself internal damage like detaching his internal organs with him jumping up and down non stop and when he landed it always seemed hard. Lol.I also spoke to him a number of times and yes he was a really nice guy.
  5. In Discogs it lists as 7 different releases it's there for all to see. To my ears the difference is in the flute section. The pye and HBR are identical and the St Claire flute section is different. As to which version is best depends on where you live and which version you heard first and which version was predominantly played in that area. I can tell you in the north of England this sound has always been extremely popular, was played at the famous Twisted Wheel whitworth Street and still fills the dance floor in 2018, the numbers speak for themselves. That's not to say it is the same in other parts of the country. Regards Fred.
  6. Isn't Malcolm, the guy who used to dance by jumping up and down all the time in mr m's in the Casino?
  7. I'm sure the Pendulum club has been covered previously. Just wonder if it's possible to merge the two threads?
  8. I know Barry Tasker is still active on the scene but what ever happened to Dave White? Regards Fred.
  9. Ian&Laney don't see them much these days as are no longer on the scene but can contact them and will give them your best regards. All the best Fred
  10. Gordon Thompson r.i.p. used to see him a lot in Rowntrees sound. If I remember correctly his fav sound was that's alright by Ed Crook. Everytime I hear this sound I think of Gordon. Happy days. All the best Fred.
  11. Barry Robinson, r.i.p. now that name counjers up some memories, he was commonly referred to as Barry big eyes! Was close friends to Ian from Huddersfield and Laney from Rochdale. He used to come over to the soul nights at the Albion pub in new street Huddersfield mid week, always dressed immaculately ,brogues, parallels, blazer or jacket with a woven badge on the breast pocket. Not sure if it was the Torch or Twisted wheel.Always set the bar for northern soul attire. Happy times Regards Fred.
  12. My old mate Phil Haigh R.I. P. used to go to the place as I'm sure Les Cockell R.I.P. did , there was a big drugs bust there and was closed down. Didn't Flash Atkinson R I P Dj there? Regards Fred.
  13. I Remember entering a Karate Competition run by John Brown at his club somewhere in Bradford. We took our team over from Huddersfield and because of the large number of entrants had to change venues and continued at Maestros night club on manningham lane. I remember it because it stuck in my mind as it was a nightclub. I also remember we didn't win but came I think it was 3rd or 4th. Regards Fred.
  14. Was it on manningham lane ? and didn't it become Penningtons Nightclub? regards Fred.
  15. Yep Martin Christie. Used to get guest dj's on, then dissapeared without paying them.

So sad to hear this news. The lady that brought us the Twisted wheel classic "A love reputation". R I P Denise Fred.
  18. As long as the stylus is not worn as most decent Dj's will ensure they are always in top condition, winding the turntable in reverse when cueing shouldn't damage the run in on vinyl. Regards Fred.
  19. An Error occurred and this posting can be read above.Regards Fred.
  20. Most vinyl decks have a row of l.e.d.lights that illuminate gradually across the row of lights as you spin the record so you know bang on where the track starts. If not on the decks you can get mixers with the lights built in. In this way you don't even need headphones.if you have to use headphones they can be turned up to a high volume so this should be able to compensate for your slight deafness.I hope this helps all the best for 2018 regards Fred.
  21. We, that is myself Fred Ward,Howard Lockwood,Howard Earnshaw and Des Harris used to get over to the Vic lounge one night during the week. Vinny the landlord was always pissed.Al Stephenson was always there and Geoff Armstrong. If I remember correctly wasn't Al Stephenson's record collection on permanent loan to the Vic Lounge. Slightly off thread but Do you remember Studio 58 off new Street in Huddersfield. ALL the Huddersfield wheel crowd used to frequent. To name a few Pip, Frankie Carr, cobber and Keith Nester ,Ivan Moorhouse ,Ralph Senior (r.ip) mart, mosh, I can remember it as if it was yesterday.Regards Fred.
