How many times have you walked into a nightclub & they have played the Snake - First you think "OH NO" and then you have a little glee to say to yourself - They are playing our music and you smile I was in the car listing to Northsound 2 here in Aberdeen andthe last record the guy played in his 2 hours of solid pop/rock music was "Love factory" - Wow I shouted to myself and felt tingles up my spine. Now Im sick of hearing Love factory after 30 odd years but to hear it on mainstream radio just made me feel great!
  3. Pratt & McClain - Whatcher Sign? Im a Pisces - (Split personality) IM Feckin MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just forgot - TKOs - The Charge on "TEN STAR" (Short year that was ) I told you I was mad!
  4. Not a nice thing to happen and the bloody insurance company are only going to pay peanuts- some companies I think there is alimit on what they pay out with items nicked from the car unless you have away from home insurance. Sam did you look around the back of buildings /walls etc cos unless the person knew what he was after - random thieves just dump unusual things cos they cannot get quick money for them. I had an overhead projector knicked from the boot once- It looked like a laptop case to them but obviously when they looked inside it wasnt - they dumped it in a garden 250 yeards away- Just a thought!
  5. Now this is unusual I think The Brothers - Are you ready for this was played at Wigan but The Brothers - Were you ready for that(From the Dont Stop now Album) was played loads at the Mecca I remember watching Andy Lett(Epic) Sliding across the floor to this and I was mesmersied by the string arrangement. Will someone please confirm this was the case as regards to which one was played where! Cheers Steve
  6. So sad to hear this. I will think of you Mike on saturday - ill probably play Frantic escape to to remember you by.
  7. No he got it from Barrie Waddington for £300.00 I was 5 minutes too late
  8. Yes Pete I cannot remember words to some of the songs I used to sing in the band But if someone asked me to sing on Video I would have the words just out of shot & I would look like I knew the words instead of looking as though @I dont know what Im doing here@ Cos thats what Carol Canty looks like! In my view it demeans the original recording and sticks out like a sore thumb! What about my idea of sending the dvds to one of these late might Tv shows that critically appraise films/dvds/books/etc or Ian to invite open minded people from across the spectrum to have a discussion group - It could even be filmed for Source
  9. I havnt got the Dvds yet - but I will Ive seen the ones on U-Tube and yes the quality lets them down a little. My earlier point was one of when you remake something you cannot always remake the oiriganal feeling in it and thats why people are often put off. A good example of that is the Northern soul DVD from Goldmine. I think the Venicia Wilson Track is Great- & I love the Four Vandals - However The Sapphires Got to have your love is appalling - Forget who is singing it but she has to keep looking at the words on her cards that are blatantly in her hand . It really was so Amateurish beyond belief - Where was the energy even competence in that performance not to mention the lack of proffesionalism as a singer. When I saw the outside cover and saw - " Got to have your love" I was feeling goosebumps. When I saw it I had a terrible let down. I liked part of the SWONS but again similar issues with that as well. I hope this one is not similar. Sorry Ian but you do get personal at times and it rubs people up the wrong way. Why do you mention £80,000 - the money that you have put into the project. You said you did it for the love of it not the money so why mention it. I am known to be an instigator and person who has helped hundreds if not thousands of kids in football to keep them off drugs when I could have been making money hand over fist but I never mentioned it when discussing football so why are you mentioning money here if its not to get respect from people cos you put your money where your mouth is! I dont say that a leopard cannot change its spots but if you are above this then ignore the biggots. Remember this Ian - " Some people think they are thinking changes - when they are merely re-arranging their prejudices" Why dont you offer this set of Dvds to one of the Tv companies to critically analyse it like they do with films- Just an Idea or set up an open forum meeting so people can discuss face to face. Just an Idea Regards Steve
  10. Thanks Adrian - was having a senior moment.
  11. Its an O jays track It goes Let life flow - Roll with the punches Roll with the punches For the life of me cannot remember the title and if its 45 or album track - Having a senior moment Cheers Steve
  12. I would dearly love to see - The jewels - doing "we got togetherness" - What a bloody laugh that would be seeing everyone go mental! One I wished I had seen would have been Big Maybelle As for Now probably the Ojays - after all these years it would be great to hear a long set of Imperial and PIR recordings
  13. 30 quid was cheap seen one for 50 quid in last few months

So you should be - Now piss off! and annoy Mr levine about the Carstairs - Ha Ha
  15. Cats eyes - Life Now that sounded spooky at Wigan with just one fluorescent light
  16. This is a strange one- the 12" The promo copy only had 3 tracks on it whereas the Issue copy had 4 tracks on it. However the Northern version is on both Doesnt come up for sale very often and was even quite hard when released. Not sure if it only got a limited press.
  17. Is your real name Lord Mandelson - have you been meeting with a rich Russian - Cos I couldnt afford those tunes in one go!
  18. I am in total agreement here with Andy, Ian - Since I got back into the Northern scene 10 years ago I have done nothing but defend what you have done infront of people who are not "Purists" as you say but people who love the feeling that the original recordings give you. Your updating of them does not give them that inner feeling Ian - If you re-recorded - Your magic put a spell on me with some background additions to beef it up - It still wouldnt have the same feeling to it as it did in the 70s. I applaud your intentions in what you are doing but its like having the Blackpool FC team of the 50s being given a face lift(new training techniques etc) - They would be murdered today , so when you view seee the old movies winning the FA cup its a nostalgia thing cos Matthews is never going to score in this Millenium and thats the same way as most in the Northern scene view things. This maybe a rash thing to say but If you went and found some really great records and exploded them onto the scene I think people would warm to you a bit more. It just seems like you are on a crusade and you are always going to have supporters and enemies.

Not sure if it was 77 or 78 - Walked into Mr Ms to see people dancing to Spaceark - Do what you wanna do. Decided to turn round and go back to the main room-Went back to Ms later only to hear guess what again - Spaceark!
  21. Sorry to hear this Dawn - never been to your do but I sympathise as - lets jump on the bandwagon has happend up here in Aberdeen and Dundee where genuine real deal people have been squeezed out by people who saw a cash cow and decided we will run a soul night! and jump into your venue on different dates etc etc etc. In Dundee even on the same night! I can appreciate all the hard work that people like you and others like Soulmac(Dundee)Gasher etc (Aberdeen) to keep teh music progressive and alive. Take a rest LUV youve probably earned it - Charge your batteries up & come out fighting!
  22. They obviously had an offer that attracted them to end it early- Its as simple as that. I got aguy to end early becasue I made him an offer he could not refuse for it even though the auction had 3 days to run and the offer was less than book price.
  23. Think Ive told this one before Box ina brick a brac shop saying 25p each or £4 the box- saw the first record and picked up the box and gave the £4 Outside in the car feeling very pleased with myself as the first record in the box was the 1st issue demo of bread & beer band - dick barton theme on Decca - I promptly soldto a collector in Birmingham with 48 hours for £75.00 However looking at the rest in the car my eyes lit up - only 1 Northern soul record - Pet Clark Sign of the times Pye demo. However there were about another 60-70 demos which included The Beatles- I feel fine / & She love you -Wow sold the pair for £180 (This was 1996 0r 97) and absolutely lots of Hollies demo/ Pet clark demos/ Tom Jones demos and Searchers demos The Move demos /Pink Floyd Columbia demos) etc Last in the Box was the Eden St Skiffle band 10 flexi discs from 1958 I think with the cardboard pic sleeve to put them into when playing(I sold that to a dealer for £60) In total I think I got not far short of £600. Now that was a result.
