Bobby Womack At Glastonbury
Well said. I really like The Bravest Man In The Universe album and would like to have heard him perform Deep River off it. Love Is Gonna Lift You Up is just fantastic and I would like to have heard it arranged for the full band in the second set as they would have made it soar higher, I think. Glad I watched it.

Bobby Womack At Glastonbury
Aid, dunno if you caught them but Portishead were featured after the Arctic Monkeys ( who I thought were brilliant btw ) Featured were Wandering Star, Machine Gun and Glory Box. I saw them at Glasto in 95 so their set then was basically the Dummy album. Probably the best live gig I've been at.

Nice Little Feature On Backstreet Soul Club
Great article and thanks for posting it. I've been to several nights at the Backstreet Soul Club in the last 3 years whilst visiting family in Norwich. I'm one of those dreaded " returnees " you hear about on this site. I must have gone to one of the first nights at the Flixton Rooms as me and my mates used to go there for the happy hour and were delighted to find Northern being played. That was 5 years after I'd last been to an all nighter held downstairs at the Samson & Hercules which was very briefly the home of the EASC after St Ives shut at the end of 77. Peoples nightclub is mentioned in the article which was the midweek soul night for the Norwich crowd from 1976/7 and which was held in a basement club in the city centre. Several local DJ's cut their teeth down there Kev Fetherstone, Kev Laws, Mobbsy, Mick Maguire ( Billy's brother ). Kev Laws still regularly DJ's at Backstreet and I've heard him play fantastic modern soul sets when Backstreet has had a second room, usually at Bank Holidays. Norwich boasts 3 current 100 Club DJ's Frank Webster, Adrian Corbin and now Billy, of course, who all DJ at the club. I've also heard some cracking sets there from Mick Smith, Col, the original poster and Carl Fortnum and many other guests who Mark is able to attract. I am always impressed at the turnout for Backstreet and Mark deserves recognition for the longevity and quality of the club. Great beer prices there too - forgot to mention that! I'm hoping to be moving back to Norwich next month after living in London for the last 16 years so expect I'll be attending many more nights there in the future and maybe joining Mark, Billy and co on their trips to the 100 Club, Rugby etc.

London In July? Event/store Recommendations Please
Hi If you're on a budget maybe a holiday let would be suitable?. It's just a thought. Lots of them advertised on Gumtree but expect there are many other websites advertising similar. Examples here https://www.gumtree.com/p/flats-houses/luxury-garden-flat-close-to-camden-great-transport-links-2-min-to-tube-special-offer/1020006661#photo-content https://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/north-west-london/311628 It's easy to get to Southwark ( and Waterloo / London Bridge which are close by) and shouldn't be more than 30 mins from other underground stations in Zones 1 and 2. Good luck with your search.

Edwin Starr - You're My Mellow - Recording Session Info Please
That's interesting as i've never heard of this drummer before. A google search brings up a thread in Soulful Detroit in which he says he drummed on 00 Soul and other Ric Tic releases All Turned On/ I'm satisfied . Learn something new everyday Seems as though he was a member of the Don Davis Trio too. He's on the right in the picture.

Myto/Jobete Edwin Starr; recorded GW ; produced by Al Kent, Richard Morris ; arranged by Joe Hunter Jan-67; 45 (M): Ric Tic RT-120 A Didn't Golden World studios usually employ the Funk Bros for their sessions?. Having said that the drumming style ( rolls right round the kit ) is unusual but great.

List Of All The Songs Copied By 60S Bands To Make Their Names
Think you're right. Spencer Davis Group had a No1 with Keep On Running and another hit with Somebody Help Me, but Stevie Winwood wrote their best 2 singles Gimme Some Lovin' and I'm A Man.

O'jays Time To Get Down
I found the demo in the clip on Portobello Market a couple of years ago. Paid £7.00 for it ( sticker is still on the sleeve ) which i was well chuffed with. One of my best finds and like you i wouldn't part with it. Cheers mike

O'jays Time To Get Down
Just had a listen to 992 Arguments - Like it! The flip of Time To Get Down is Shifty Shady Jealous Kind Of People which aint too shabby either. Release date on the demo says June 1973 . I was nearly 13 then so missed out first time around. I've only heard it played out once at Norwich Backstreet Soul Club by veteran soul DJ Kev Laws.
